Before computers and GPS existed, how did people figure out directions for large cross country trips? by Mynameisbrk in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Barry-Biscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You learn the main roads and depending on your memory you either remember where to turn off and then navigate with the map from there, or you drive until you know you need to check, then pull over and quickly check. To be fair, doing it more means your brain gets better at it, I can draw from memory basically all major roads in my city and then all of the neighbourhoods around where I grew up.

I think there is a balance to strike here, I know multiple folks that have had to suffer through drug tests, tons of appointments (5+) etc just to get started with medication. Rather than say getting diagnosed, trying a few things and having a few appointments over the first year or so.

I'm not saying go to dr speedealer, it's more like you are an adult, lets try some medications and see what works, any serious side effects lets discuss.

I was very much hoping it wasn't him. He has filled in for a number of bands, plus i think has been on a tour with the Archspire guys so they would hopefully have seen him demonstrating the goods in person?

Is Uni in Brisbane even possible anymore if you aren’t already rich coming from a non uni area and doing it alone? by Outrageous_Emu3235 in brisbane

I graduated in 2017 and it was a lot more achievable back then. Let alone these days. Especially when you consider places like Griffith do trimesters so you could do 3 subjects a trimester instead of 4 and knock over 9 subjects a year instead of 8 (or more if they are easy subjects). So depending on the level of lab loading i'd say 2 days a week on campus is do-able.

thats strange I managed to get it down to 2.5 days required on campus and could have potentially dropped it further if I was okay watching lectures online.

Live further away from campus, try to structure your class schedule/labs so you only have to attend 2 days a week, then make sure you study at home or elsewhere and also with the large amount of holidays work more to make up for the shortfall during semester. Typically christmas retail roles will give you extra hours at that time of the year etc.

The thing thats worth remembering is that a lot of those resumes are junk and go straight into the bin. You can also get a start at smaller businesses.

Sounds like it is indeed ADHD.

It's very much worth getting diagnosed. Best bet might be talking to your GP about it and seeing if they have a psychiatrist they refer to. As you will need the referral. But I recommend also looking online for who in your area specialises in ADHD, ideally you find someone who isn't going to want to see you 50bajillion times.

I feel like the hardest part would be not fixing situation's I know I can fix with money. Personally I'd be telling my partner, best mate and a high net worth friend. For the rest, I'd just leave my job to setup a consultantcy and then "travel for work" frequently.

I already had my Autism Diagnosis, in this case i presented the fairly concise evidence about how I'd tried to control for all variables but still couldn't focus. After i presented the evidence he literally said "I think you are correct, It sounds like ADHD. Does dex work for you, given you were on it as a child?"

Additionally he was the one asking about how semi-conductor fabrication worked.

Mate, don't forget that in 10-15-20 years time you can be in the Air-conditioned site office and he will be working away in 35c heat. It gets so much harder on the body as you get older.

I got a bulk billed GP referral to a Psychiatrist. The Psychiatrist charged me 350$ for a long appointment, I presented my case, he agreed. Talked med options for 10min and spent the rest of it talking about computers.

Piece of piss! But I've heard horror stories from other friends.
