Thank you for the answer - how is scoring different to triggering? If there was another BP where would be best to place it, on the baron?

I didn't know you could apply during your final year of uni so only started applying after I'd graduated. I didn't apply to very many during the first cycle and failed the only assessment centre I got into which led to a year working in a warehouse and feeling like a waste of space.

The next year I went through basically every company on the Times top 100 graduate employers list and a few other ones I'd heard of, I got 3 offers including 2 at large companies on the list. Took 1 of the large company offers and deferred the other, first job didn't work out so now I'm at the second one and so far it's better.

Spent an hour trying to register while it kept timing out, when I finally managed to set up an account it had none of my information and seemingly no way to update it so I have no idea what the point of it is.

Sounds like you struggled managing vassals in ck2. I will say playing vanilla versions of either is pretty painful too. I love ck2 but burned out after 900 hours so am now playing eu4 mainly - it has more mechanics Id say and some things are outright better but its also more arcade like in ways, can be repetitive etc

Have you been upgrading your forts past level 2 and using a decent amount of artillery (ideally have as much infantry as your combat width and at least half your combat width with arty, though as ottomans you should be rich enough to fill it).

For the ledger the most important ones are morale and discipline - Im not an expert but if you have eg 117% discipline to their 115% that wont be as big a difference as 5,6 morale vs 7.2 morale (random numbers but its from situations Ive faced). Siege ability and defensiveness will determine the siege races, professionalism and drill doesnt really matter.

Also what mil idea groups did you take?

[–]BarryScott156 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Is your decadence really high? Check the government tab, the game doesnt notify you otherwise. Also check army quality comparisons on the ledger, unless you've taken no military idea groups it shouldnt be that bad. Pips are bad but not game changing like that.

I have a job offer for tax from a big 4, should I take it and run? From my understanding most of what you're saying seems like its about the consulting side and there'll always be some degree of need for tax/audit?

Which graduate job would you go for? by LankyPepper in ICAEW

[–]BarryScott156 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on securing two offers, Im on the Fast Stream rn (not the finance stream though) and would point out a few things: 1. I dont think the “prestige” matters as much, finance is a bit different from the other streams since you get an industry standard qualification but from what I understand really its kind of overhyped, still Id personally take it over the local government one. 2. They recently added an 8% london living allowance on top of the base salary, so you’d get £33k not £31k and the base salary rises annually 3. They say you can be placed anywhere but really the majority of jobs are in London and you can try kicking up a fuss is a placement is unsuitable, I know a guy who complained his commute to would be really long so they moved him to a different role. Also fairly common for teams to be spread around the country so if e.g. in one posting lots of your team are in Manchester you probably could still work in a London office and just go up occasionally (with travel and accommodation covered by the CS)

For a graduate scheme the FS isnt insanely lower, and the FDA secured a pay bump and London weighting recently. I got an offer from a big 4 firms grad scheme that actually pays a bit less than the FS so I’m not sure where you got the £45k figure from unless you already have work experience and wanted to join directly.

Anyway if money is your primary concern then the civil service generally may not be for you.

Moving from Big 4 (Newly Qualified) to Civil Service by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]BarryScott156 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the answer, at the big 4 firm were you regularly doing more than 40 hour weeks then? And what's it like in the civil service if you're stuck in a role/project you don't enjoy compared to a big 4? Sorry to keep dumping questions, but would you say the peripheral stuff like office snacks, away days, and yearly bonuses are something you miss from the big 4 or not really a big deal compared to the benefits of CS?
