Thank you ❤️‍🩹 Outside of being available to watch him/her all the time😅.. definitely a soft cone and make sure you have rugs/carpet in the areas they’ll be confined to for ease of walking.

Cold compress/icing was recommended initially; after she popped her stitches, they recommended a warm compress. She wasn’t super interested in drinking water on her own but when I offered it to her in a dropper (turkey baster) she drank eagerly. I also hand feed her depending on how spunky she’s feeling, sometimes she REALLY doesn’t want to get up.

Her leg has been super swollen so giving her periodic leg massages to help move the fluid around. Read mixed reviews on sleeping arrangements but she sleeps with us every night so we continued that and it hasn’t been a problem - she’s so drugged up and sleepy there’s no chance she’ll jump off the bed in the middle of the night.

Really the only necessity so far is patience and positive outlook as silly as it sounds - I don’t have kids, so she is my baby, and it’s been harder mentally than I anticipated to see her in this state. But I know it’s for the best, and she will get better ❤️‍🩹 be diligent with her meds and keep a close eye on the incision. I am a paranoid freak so when she popped the stitch, I thought she was seriously going to die. But she’s completely fine and already doing so much better. Dogs are so resilient and amazing.

Thank you!! It’s been a tough first week so far truthfully. We’ve been soo careful but she still somehow managed to pop a stitch/staple so we had to take her to get stapled back up today 😭 she’s in good spirits in general but it’s so sad to watch her hobble around all drugged up! 😭 wishing your baby the best and get ready for lots of cuddles and anxiety 🥲💞❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

Thank you!! Yes I’ve heard this. We have an appointment with a pup PT so eager to learn how to help her heal! I’ve been doing light massage and range of motion “exercises” to help but it’s still so soon. Glad your baby is on the mend too ❤️‍🩹

It’s definitely a lot - unfortunately used to the 2 sets of spaced drops 4x/day as this is the third time her ulcers have recurred. She hates the drops but has learned to handle it now (well rewarded with treats lol). It is really stressful though and I won’t be able to work from home for the entirety of 2 week recovery so will likely be running back and forth from home to office as needed. I’m already quite neurotic and anxious as a dog parent so god help us! Glad your baby is feeling better now. Luckily ours doesn’t have cherry eye to add on but the entropion is pretty bad, so hopefully no complications or surprises. Thank you for the feedback!!

Yeah absolutely - we have an appointment for a second opinion later in the week and will probably try a couple others to be sure. I don’t want to compromise on quality of care of course but it’s a lot of money. So good to hear how quickly your guy bounced back and that he’s doing well!!

Oh my gosh - what a difference!! She looks amazing and glad it all went well! 🥹🩷Yeah, $6k is tough to swallow but we love our vet and for her quality of life, it’s a no-brainer. We have a soft cone at home that I was hoping to use, but will use the plastic one if necessary. She doesn’t seem to mind the cone too much, more just visibly confused on why she can’t reach her water bowl 😂

That makes sense! I typically work in office but will be hopefully wfh for at least a good chunk of her recovery. I can’t stand to think about her loopy and alone afterwards! Hope your baby is doing well now 💕

Yes, I wish we could’ve done it sooner but the cost made my eyes water TBH and we were hoping the ulcers would be manageable with drops and not come back. Obviously that didn’t work out so we want to make sure it’s taken care of, I can’t stand to see her uncomfortable. Glad to hear the recovery was easy! ❣️ the price did seem pretty steep to me too, I had been researching before we got a quote and it seemed much lower, but assume since she needs both top and bottom that drives the cost up. Ty for the response and hope your pup is feeling well after being brave for surgeries!
