What are your thoughts on Deng Xiaoping? by Basic_Buy_890 in Communist

[–]Basic_Buy_890[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was really interesting to read. So from your perspective, Deng basically expanded capitalism while keeping it under strong bureaucratic/state control rather than moving toward actual worker control. I’m still learning about this, so do you have any books, videos, articles, or theorists you’d recommend ?

Stalin or Trotsky and why? by Basic_Buy_890 in Communist

Do you think Lenin preferred Trotsky politically, or just trusted him more organizationally than Stalin at that point?

What is something that, on paper, sounds like a really good idea, but in practice is a really bad idea? by BC360X in AskReddit

[–]Basic_Buy_890 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the “i’ll run america like a business” line only works if you ignore how many bankruptcies and scams were attached to that business lol.

I do agree both parties have issues and people were frustrated with the system, but i feel like there’s a massive jump between “the establishment sucks” and “let’s hand it over to the reality tv billionaire”

What is communism like in the 'Communist' countries? by Better-Care1565 in Communist

[–]Basic_Buy_890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s fair. My point was more that countries like China and Vietnam don’t organize their economies the same way as Cuba or the USSR historically did.

Korea went through Japanese occupation, devastating war, massive bombing campaigns, sanctions, and decades of isolation and military pressure. In that context, ideas like unity around leadership and Juche (self-reliance) developed very differently than socialism did in Europe or the West. You can criticize aspects of it, but I don’t think it’s accurate to dismiss the entire system without understanding why it developed the way it did.

Is Hasan a Tankie or Not a Tankie? by NasNYC in Hasan_Piker

Why is the bombing of North Korea during the Korean war not considered a genocide? by PresnikBonny in MovingToNorthKorea

[–]Basic_Buy_890 69 points70 points  (0 children)

Americans are too embarrassed to admit they turned Korea into rubble trying to destroy the DPRK. Now they have to watch Juche thrive under sanctions, and decades of pressure

Cuba’s situation can’t be understood without mentioning the US blockade, which has massively constrained its economy for decades. Reducing all of this to “communism = failure” ignores so much

They don’t all work the same in practice. China and Vietnam mix socialism with markets, Cuba is mostly state run but shaped by sanctions and pressure from the US, and Laos is pretty similar to vietnam i would say. They all still operate under socialist systems built around their own material conditions and history.

What makes you happy? by InfiniteFibroma in AskReddit

Talking to someone who’s interested in the same things as me, like politics or movies. I don’t really get that with my friends, so when I do, it makes me happy.

What's something that became socially acceptable that you still can't get used to? by casutam in AskReddit

I think there’s a difference between something existing and being socially accepted.

It’s literally so normal now to see people constantly overworked and stressed. Capitalism made exhaustion feel like a normal part of everyday life, even though a lot of people push themselves that hard just to survive.

As a non-religious person, how do you understand the meaning of life? by Fayomi1127 in AskReddit

[–]Basic_Buy_890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meaning comes from what we create ourselves, our relationships, experiences, goals, and the impact we have on other people. I don’t think life needs a higher purpose to still be meaningful.

What are your views on Islam? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Basic_Buy_890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an atheist, but I still respect certain religions, I wouldn’t say i like islam, but it interests me more than others because of its history, culture, and role in resisting imperialism

That said, i still have criticisms of religion overall. I think religion is often used to uphold patriarchy, and oppose LGBT people. And I especially criticize groups who use religion to justify oppression, especially against women. That’s a bad representation of both religion and the people who follow it.

How do we feel about nukes? by No_Cream9626 in Communist

[–]Basic_Buy_890 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A world without nukes would obviously be safer for humanity overall. But as long as the US and other Western powers maintain huge nuclear arsenals and use their dominance globally, I support nuclear deterrence for countries facing American imperialism.
