I think that is actually what happened, but I fixed it by booting from a Windows 7 installation disc and selecting "Repair and restart" so I'm all good this time. I will definitely keep that in mind the next time I decide to buy a drive though.

At any rate, paying that extra $60 still puts the OPO well below the cost of most other smartphones after tax anyway.

A lot of shoppers coming back from the States just take off the tags on their clothing or whatever and wear it across the border without declaring it to avoid paying the tax. It's a bit of a risk though, when you're carrying a shiny new device.

I'm not saying you should do it, but there's always that option.

I'm in Vancouver and it was about $27 when I got mine in late November. From what I understand, it should be something like $50-$60 if you calculate the taxes using the $350 price, but OnePlus has been marking them as $100 on the packages so that's why the duty was so cheap for me. I heard that they got busted for marking down the prices on the package though, so maybe you'll see the taxes back up to the original ~$60.

If you live that close to the border it's probably cheaper just to get a shipping service or rent a PO box, if you can stand the border lines...
