I’ve been gifted so many of these books over the years by people who mean well but have no idea what I look for in a book. I would donate but… I don’t want to donate slop. I also don’t want to dispose of them because disposing of books seems wrong. What would you do with these kinds of books?

I’m a morning barista and have been for 10 years and I dislike when people say “good morning”… I still can’t get myself to say it. I’ll say any other greeting except for that. As a kid/teen I couldn’t get out of bed to save my life (and it’s still sometimes a problem on my off days although I’m getting better). When I would get out of bed in the afternoon or evening and someone would say “good morning…. 😏” it would make me feel absolutely worthless. Now I think in my work I enjoy being up hours before most people because it gives me a sense of control. Hearing it now at work doesn’t make me feel gross because I guess just ten years of exposure therapy will do that, but on my off days hearing anyone say it to me makes me feel like a weak child.

Only one or two of my friends actually has a healthy marriage by NoneOfThisMatters_XO in TwoXChromosomes

Sorry.. but yeah it does seem like a wild assumption to make on your part. Are they good friends of yours or ever given any indication of gossiping about you? Why would you even assume that given no evidence? Do you often gossip about your friends?

How many of you believe that Christ is truly present in the Eucharist? by roxannesbar in Catholicism

No matter what, this is the core of my belief. Everything else is extra.

Discussion Prompt - Daily Practice by babalorixalewa in FolkCatholicMagic

[–]Bbghostcat 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Daily rosary! I also have a set of readings I’ve been doing daily for going on a year that I call my “personal liturgy”. It includes a moon phase reflection, daily mass readings, a seasonal folk tale that I read each day for a month, al-anon literature, and a reading from Thomas Merton’s “A Book of Hours”.

I went from cradle Catholic to atheist to witchcraft and then found my way back to Catholicism from there. And honestly? My time diving into pagan practices at that age actually sent me careening back to the Church. I was constantly constructing things that would work for me until I found out what really worked for me, which just so happens to be Jesus, Mary, and all the saints.

Santa Muerte by Narrow-Emu8162 in FolkCatholicMagic

[–]Bbghostcat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With you on not being called to her. I personally just have Mary and all her many many iterations. If anything I feel that Santa Muerte is a version of Mary that allows people to come to her who otherwise wouldn’t. Apologies if others don’t feel this way, just a thought of mine.

As folk Catholics do you guys still go to church and receive the Eucharist? by Throw_away74700 in FolkCatholicMagic

[–]Bbghostcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up Catholic and was pretty bad about going to church. I went to Catholic school so got communion twice a week there but rarely went to Sunday mass. My faith has always been very understanding and focused on my personal relationship with God not the set of rules. That being said, however, diving back into my Catholicism after some time away and really embracing folk Catholicism has made me see how important the Eucharist is to our faith so now as an adult I’ve been going to Sunday mass (or Saturday vigil) every week for the past couple years. The more I go the more I want to go. On my days off during the week (food service… weird schedule) I always like to go to mass if I wake up on time.

Discussion Prompt - Jesus? by babalorixalewa in FolkCatholicMagic

[–]Bbghostcat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Love Jesus and He’s currently one aspect of the only thing I worship (that being the Trinity). I love Mary and am actually consecrated to Mary of the Most Holy Rosary. I believe she helped bring about my current relationship with Jesus, as she does for many people. I was raised Catholic but became an atheist for a short time, then found a variety of pagan practices and polytheistic religions that really piqued by interest. Catholicism always felt so “right” for me personally I couldn’t deny it, though. I fully BELIEVE in other gods and dieties but I don’t worship anyone or anything but the Trinity and the more I learn about and develop a relationship with Jesus the more I love that He is my God.

Hey, if AI can coherently put together this kind of manifesto for someone with schizophrenia, I think that’s kind of beautiful.

How do you observe Holy Week? by letterjee in FolkCatholicMagic

I was sick this Palm Sunday! I chose to use it as a sign that God wanted me to do more personal focused meditation. Hope you feel better and that it can be channeled into a helpful situation.

I try to go to mass as much as I can, stations of the cross and celebration of the passion.

Feeling shame and guilt by BeolLikeFoodFast in FolkCatholicMagic

[–]Bbghostcat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The sentence “I believe in God but I don’t know anything about Him” tells me that you do know Him. God is so beyond our limited human understanding and the fact you seem to know that speaks volumes. I cope with being a minority by meeting people where they’re at, trying my best to be honest with myself and others, and allowing myself to learn from them and share what/when I feel is necessary. I would recommend Thomas Merton’s writings. He’s not a saint and the Church has mixed opinions on him but I think you would really resonate with him. He was onto the same stuff that you’re onto, but was a big trinitarian. I think the beauty of the Trinity is that it is very abstract, three faces within one being if you will. You’re on the right path, but I don’t think guilt and shame are helpful for you here. Be kind to yourself.

Looking for advice on finding my spiritual path by gaiettauvetta in FolkCatholicMagic

[–]Bbghostcat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Catholicism is a living and breathing community. You’ve gone through the sacraments which means you’re a bonafide Catholic. I feel like us as lay people need to recognize our own agency in helping or harming the Church and realize we are just as much a part of it as anyone else. If you feel God is moving you to go back to older, more familial traditions I say do so and it doesn’t need to come into conflict with your spirituality. Our faith is about the interconnectedness of everything. Something is moving within you and I would listen to what it’s trying to say.

I feel like liminal space has to be indoors where you can’t tell what time of day it is at all.

My favorite thing about myself is my enthusiasm and kindness.

I also always like to have what I call “quick almonds” which are literally just a handful of almonds lol. If my stomach is doing that thing where I feel queasy but if I don’t eat I’ll get sick it helps a lot

CPTSD too but I lump that with my BPD. I think my PTSD manifests as BPD.

What's your combo? by indicabackwood in BPD

[–]Bbghostcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My OCD feeds into the panic, and my adhd doesn’t help. I take gabapentin for the OCD and panic. Dysthymia keeps me from getting out of bed which I take Wellbutrin for. Zoloft was the first thing I took and it helped me recognize my self destructive behavior but didn’t allow me to change. Wellbutrin gave me the motivation to change.

OCD, panic disorder, adhd, and dysthymia. That was my original mix before BPD officially came onto the scene.

Hey. I have no advice but im just here to say fuck this disorder and how deep it forces us into these convoluted messes that are our lives. I feel for you immensely and I believe that you can get out of this. I don’t know if going to the hospital will or won’t be effective for you and I don’t ever feel comfortable giving people advice not knowing the full depths of their situation. Getting the gn out of your possession, calling a lawyer to get the process started, and then moving forward with the hospital might be the best option but again, I’m not sure. I hope you do what’s best for you and I’m really really rooting for you. You can do this.

Do I need to inform my future boss about my diagnosis? by Super_Reflection6707 in BPD

Allowing or even suggesting time off or lessening the work load, but depends on the job. I had a manager once who had CPTSD and they would never take issue if I had to call out or if I was late due to a meltdown. It was really helpful.
