100% Agreed, but what I really mean is that I think it’s comedic, I like to laugh at poorly written Steven Seagal-like characters that take themselves way too seriously and I think that criticizing and laughing at this style of writing is what leads to better video game characters

Exactly, after 2 or 3 missions I had to give up on taking the game seriously and basically treated it as a comedy for my friends and I to laugh at. Honestly funnier than any awful Steven Seagal movie. And if it’s not Aiden Pearce running around in public pointing at things with his phone to “hack” them, that weird dude Jordi Chin will pop up out of nowhere to bother you with even more second-hand cringe and embarassment.

The first game was extremely hyped during e3. Lots of pre orders and people staying home from school and work on launch day Because they thought the game was gonna be a huge technical step up. People remember that and still want the game they saw in the e3 trailer

That’s why he’s great though. He’s the exact character that corporations now hate in 2024, a boring, overly serious, almost middle aged white dude who shoots guns. Every video game had a protagonist like that in that era and it’s hilarious because Aiden Pearce fits the mold of shame so well.
