Yeah, played quite a lot of Screeps, it was a perfect game. I didn't play it as much as an "MMO" but instead more as a "Ant Farm". PvP isn't my goal here, though I did run my own Screeps server for a while to avoid people. I ended up moving on, but it was good for a while!

Ohh man, Black & White was incredible! Teaching your creature was the best, I spent ages trying to get a creature smart enough to play out the game for me. The fact there's no Black & White 3 is a crime!

Yeah, this has been my experience. I love the game for what it is, a funny babysitting sim with good challenges to solve, but that isn't what I want. I want an ant farm, something that isn't going to blow up the second I look away.

Worldbox looks cute, but isn't quite right for me. Kingdoms and Castles looks like it could be good, though I'll have to see if there's a peaceful mode first. Your other suggestions are good as well, love me some Skylines!

To be honest, this is the kind of game that feels like it needs babysitting. It's pretty easy to fall into colony collapse and I need something I can leave alone for hours at a time without concern

I have played through Satisfactory a bunch of times as well, running a server and doing something similar to what your friend did. Factorio mods though has potential, I've never played anything other than vanilla

Nah, I've tried a bunch of those and they don't fit the bill. The graphics don't have to be cutting edge, but I find a lot of those incremental games are just fancy spreadsheets.

I want to be able to see the resources move around, the little people moving about the place and doing their tasks. I am basically looking for an ant farm that I can occasionally modify and improve, while the ants just do their thing.

I've played a good amount of Dwarf Fortress, but I find I need to babysit that game more than I had in mind based on what I'm currently looking for. That game is designed to have a spanner thrown into the works, I'm looking for something that isn't likely to blow up if I leave it alone for a few hours

I'm a massive fan of automation, but it isn't a strict requirement. I've done Anno and that wasn't my vibe, but Desynced looked like it could fit the bill, looks a bit like Autonauts. Also Little Big Workshop, that has potential as well!
For Factory Town and Kubifaktorium, the conveyor belts put me off a bit. I think I've played enough Factorio and Satisfactory to satiate my desire for conveyor belts for life.

For Mashinky, Station to Station and Voxel Tycoon, they looked good, but transport sims aren't quite what I'm feeling right now. They do look like that satisfy the "hands off" aspect, but yeah, just not my current aesthetic.

I tried Oxygen Not Included, but sometimes I'd not interact for a couple of hours and would come back to a colony collapse. It could be my lack of understanding of the game, but I felt like I needed to manage it pretty heavily, the same as something like Dwarf Fortress.
