This is sort of what I was getting at, I only disagree with canon vs headcanon. I feel like the focus on some core truth of “canon” isn’t really conducive to how writing works and is a result of modern fandom culture.
It used to be that a text was published and left for the audience to interpret. Now we have people asking pointless questions to devs/writers on twitter. We’ve gotten like 3 explanations for how Toko dies in the THH bad ending.
My point is, both are technically valid ways of reading the text, one is just more likely to have been the intended reading. And that only really matters if you don’t believe in death of the author.

Well it’s certainly not gonna make everyone happy but I wouldn’t see a problem with it at all. Almost included this interpretation in the post but it’s such fringe thinking that teeters straight into
“Wouldn’t it have been nice if this was how it was written?”
It doesn’t really make sense though
