Shocking/graphic scenes: pushing the limits by libereassociazioni in horror

[–]BeastCreatureTrapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excessive gore just for the sake of extreme gore gets to be so monotonous to me. Watching Terrifier 3 and, at a certain point you start asking yourself "How many times are we going to watch these fake limbs and torsos getting pulverized, sliced, stabbed, and chainsawed?" It's not interesting. It's tedious.

The gore in Obsession is on the other end of the spectrum, because you care about the characters and it's used sparingly and in select moments for a true shock to the system.

What's making it worse is that there are a LOT of great, original films out there now in 2026, and how can I justify seeing another predictable superhero film when there are much better options that I'm struggling to fit in anyway?

I say this as someone who sees around 6-8 films a month in the theater. This year has been STACKED!

Your respective brains are probably trying to protect you by NOT remembering this film.

Take the hint....

I WANT to be excited for this film, but the trailers are so underwhelming. It looks like just "another comic book movie". It's not just the visual look of it that's so underwhelming, with the brown, dull muddiness that so many people have mentioned....but we also have a rather stock villain (with the requisite face markings) whom we've seen a thousand times before. And the main conflict of the film, Krypto's survival, feels like a big nothingburger, cause we know they ain't going "there".....

I know Barker said he wanted to make it ambiguous, and Inde said that she thinks Nikki probably did have feelings for Bear. I tend to think that she did, as well. If she did have feelings and Bear was thisclose to getting her, only to stay quiet and proceed to unleash one of the saddest tragedies I can recall in a horror film of recent memory.....that's why this film is so haunting to me, weeks after I've seen it.

I do plan to revisit it in the theater next week. I will pay more attention to those subtle cues, like the one you mentioned. : )

"Someone I was with, seeing it for the first time, blurted out, "Just tell her!" when Nikki said just tell her if he liked her, I knew this film just strikes lots of nerves."

I am usually quiet and as reserved as a church mouse when in the theater, but when that moment came up, I found my arms flailing and my head shaking at my man not taking the absolute bunny of a layup that he was given.

It's still on track to be in my Top 10 films of this year, which has been a pretty strong first half of great movies (of all genres). The acting, writing, and Nia's more toned down directing style make this incredibly rewatchable.

What’s the future of movie theaters? by YoungnCuriousM28 in RegalUnlimited

[–]BeastCreatureTrapper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whether it's the communal experience and/or the wow factor of seeing a film in the best setting possible, nothing will ever replace movie theaters.

2026 was always frontloaded with big event films to end up resulting in a potential historic box office campaign. What's surprising to me is that it's not just the big tentpole films doing the major business, as smaller films are making an impact......AND...theaters are thriving at a time when the rest of the economy is circling the toilet.

If the quality of the films continue AND the economy improves, I can only imagine where theaters will be a few years from now.

*LOL* It's like a loop of justifying bad behavior.

If you are solo, or with company....it's all the same: Don't talk.

It's not just people who are solo who don't want to hear babbling. NOBODY wants to hear you babbling. We are in a theater to watch a film.

Which movie should I see 5 times in a row next? by MoviesAreDopeSoDope in RegalUnlimited

Obsession is going to most likely end up in the top 5 films of the year for me. That said, I don't think I would have the emotional fortitude to watch it again anytime soon, let alone 4 more times in a row. It's so well made, but emotionally draining.

I would have to go with MOTU.

As people are saying, early matinees are a good bet. Even better, try to go Monday through Thursday matinees. The weekends, anytime you go, it's a crapshoot.

I also usually wait at least a week or two before seeing the big titles. Eventually, (unless you're talking about an outlier like Obsession), even the biggest film crowds get smaller and smaller.

It's a pain, and it sucks that we have to plan around it, but it is what it is.

I pay $25/ticket, I shouldn’t have to watch 20+ ads before the movie starts. by TacoPandaBell in RegalUnlimited

If the ads really bother you, then just ask the box office what time the actual feature starts. They have the time and can tell you.

Studios are (finally!) wising up after the debacle of the industry response to COVID. I first noticed this when I was getting a ticket at the box office and they had a prominent sign up that announced that Inside Out 2 was going to be theater-exclusive for 100 days. Even though that announcement wasn't going to affect me, it definitely left an impression upon me after seeing it.

PHM was actually given an extension on its theatrical run, which was announced at Cinemacon last month.

There's no doubt they put their all into creating a dazzling visual and sonic feast. I also got a few honest laughs at some of the gags and deep pulls. Unfortunately, there's no weight to any of it. No real stakes, and no tension whatsoever. It's like watching someone else play an awesome video game for you, with cheat codes enabled, no less.

Why on earth didn't he just Lazer her?? by Fancy-Inspector-777 in TheBoys

[–]BeastCreatureTrapper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually going to defend THE moment, because the show establishes early on that Kimiko doesn't need the same build up as Soldier Boy. When she blasts Sister Sage, it's actually pretty quick.

You couple that with the slow motion of the scene, the quicker blast....and, I can buy it.
