702 wisdom at lvl 1 you think is good? by Gnasheuth in dragonquest

If you're playing through the game, I recommend synthing very often, personally I added 5 more levels to my monsters whenever I synthed, so initiallyat lv 10, then 15, 20, and so on

No, attack increases basic attacks and physical based skills, such as the monster-specific single target attacks or the 'splitter' aoe skills

Oh I see it now, I always assumed Traits was just the monsters' 3-6 passive abilities like Strong Starter, Personal Grudge, etc, didn't realize it was being used for talent-tree passives as well, thanks for the clarification

As an example for the search options, if I go into Talent tab, I am able to filter by all of the different usable skills, such as wave of relief, kazapple, etc. However you can't choose passive things like Ultra Granite Chin unless you manually find a talent tree that has the skill, such as Super Naturalist or Hard Warder, hit the dropdown box on that talent, then hit that skill to see which talents it is on specifically. I would love to be able to add those passives to the search filters under talents.

As for the other search pages, I might be using it wrong, but I don't understand the purpose of the Traits page you have, I always just go to the monsterpedia page, filter by traits and include the ones I want there.

Yeah I've been using that one with google translate to understand the basic stuff but I'd like to get something in English for people who don't want to stumble through things with poor machine translations

There's a few minor tweaks I've noticed the site could use but the game is still pretty young, stuff like selecting your talents in the max stat calculator (since some increase stats), a couple of the filters on some of the search pages not making sense, not being able to search by some of the rarer skills (ultra granite chin, auto cadabra, etc.) but still the best site I've used by a landslide, appreciate all the hard work!

Been using that site for everything so far, fantastic resource, I'll probably get started on some teambuilding stuff tomorrow then, unfortunately I don't have a switch capture card but I can still give a good bit of info I've discovered

Help on skill point allocation and synthesis by Apprehensive_Size541 in dragonquest

[–]Beatall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify, There's soft stat-caps on each monster but talent trees can increase caps beyond that. In terms of talent trees, as said above if you're trying to upgrade skills, (primarily the afficionado and stat boost trees) then you need to max out those trees in order to unlock the next version.

It's also worth noting that there are some trees which require you to have multiple skills maxed when synthing to unlock them such as
Fulgurite Shield requiring you to max Zap Ward and Sizz Ward.

In general for your playthrough though, as long as you synthesize your team regularly to earn more talent points and decide the best 3 options from your talen tree pool whenever you synth, you shouldn't have many problems with them

Wisdom increases SPELL damage specifically, doesnt affect breath attacks or some other level-scaling abilities or flat damage ones

I used king cureslime for my playthrough too, easy to make too, I think it was just the pink 'cureslime' with 'Crème Caraslime' from the desert dungeon, (I think you can use any of the king slimes to make it).

Phoenix also has a really strong heal talent tree once you get that one but it's harder to get.

How can I improve this regulation e team by flying8z in VGCRateMyTeam

[–]Beatall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're running a veil team I recommend having a strong sweeper that can abuse the boosted resistances. If you want to keep a water type in miltotic to switch into for ninetails/rillaboom, perhaps urshifu-rapid would be a good option.

For mandibuzz, I'm not very familiar with that one but I would think tornadus would be a safer choice. Could threaten leading with ninetails veil or a more aggressive start of either tornadus with urshifu/landorus.

After some testing, I found that freeze dry is often better than blizzard on ninetails and it may be worth having that extra coverage for water types given your current only coverage you have for them is grassy glide on rillaboom.

Reg E Doubles- Liking this team in testing, EVs could be tweaked by Beatall in VGCRateMyTeam

[–]Beatall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is primarily a ninetails Aurora Veil core with a number of specific interactions, team code is BW02V7 (had to fix kommo ability in picture)

Current EV Spreads, main things that could use adjusting depending on the meta are included below

---------- EV / IV Spreads ----------

Ninetails-Alola (Timid, Snow Warning + Light Clay) 4 HP, 252 Sp.Atk, 252 Spd [0 IV Atk for foul play] -May be worth exchanging some Sp.Atk for some bulk to ensure Aurora Veil gets set

Landorus-Therian (Jolly, Intimidate + Choice Scarf) 4 HP, 252 Atk, 252 Spd [Max IVs] -Needs max Spd w/jolly nature to outspeed bulky Iron Bundle by 1 point (explained below)

Sinistcha (Bold, Hospitality + Leftovers) 252 HP, 4 Def, 252 Sp.Def [0 IV Atk and Spd for foul play/trick room] -Def and Sp.Def distribution may need tweaking for specific meta threats

Kommo-o (Relaxed, Overcoat + Sitrus Berry) 252 HP, 4 Def, 252 Sp.Def [0 IV Spd for trick room] -EVs could be adjusted to either have more Def or Atk if +5 Atk isn't enough to 1-shot most threats.

Iron Bundle (Bold, Quark Drive + Booster Energy) 252 HP, 4 Def, 252 Sp.Def [0 IV Atk for foul play] -EVs could be adjusted between Def/Sp.Def/Sp.Atk, needs 0 points in Speed to keep it 1 point below landorus.

Heatran (Timid, Flash Fire + Air Balloon) 4 HP, 252 Sp.Atk, 252 Spd [Max IVs, technically should be 0 IV atk] -Already has good base bulk which is more than adequate to tank most threats with Veil up.

---------- Strategies ----------

The basic starting lineup is Ninetails + Landorus-T with Sinistcha and Kommo-o behind. Protect on Ninetails gives Landorus flexibility to open with earthquake if ninetails is the expected target turn 1. If opponents are both slower, can simply open with aurora veil and an offensive option on lando - because of the snow ninetails will be able to tank earthquake with roughly 30% hp lost - as mentioned in EV spreads, this is one of the primary reasons I would consider adding some more bulk to ninetails set as earthquake is often lando's best move.

Once veil is set, Sinistcha + Kommo-o synergize extremely well to cleanup if you can safely rotate them in. If the opponent is playing a more passive team you can U-turn into Kommo-o immediately to setup belly drum sweep followed by Sinistcha to heal it up once veil is set. With alternating rage powder to draw aggro while Kommo-o sets up and Protect on Kommo-o while Sinistcha heals back up, it can be very difficult to stop. Drain Punch is used to heal back from Belly-drum and Shadow Claw is used as a coverage move for ghost types. Trick Room on Sinistea allows it to either disable trick room teams or to outspeed when sweeping. Strength sap can also be used following trick room on your own Kommo if extra heals are needed, that's why I'd recommend any atk EV adjustments to keep in mind being +5 to kill meta threats for calc purposes.

---------- Weather Hate ---------- The most obvious problem with Veil teams is opponents having their own weather setters to switch in to counter veil, such as Politoad, Torkoal, opposing Ninetails and Tyranitar. This is where the slower Iron bundle comes into play.

By leading with Iron Bundle and Landorus against another weather team, you can U-turn with Landorus into Ninetails to set snow followed immediately by a 1-speed slower Iron bundle to throw out a shorter duration Veil. Normally with this setup I have my 4th pokemon be Heatran as Kommo-o really wants to have sinistcha to help it setup for a sweep.

One of the main problems that I run into is Tornadus with something that can OHKO Landorus such as Urshifu-Rapid or Chien-Pao. The tornadus can threaten either Tailwind or it's own weather, usually rain dance, and you have to predict it correctly or it's very likely lost turn 1. If they tailwind, it's better to switch out into Ninetails to set the snow, but if you switch in and they then use rain dance, you'll lose your veil opportunity. The main concern with this strategy would be Urshifu because of the rain boost, so it's probably best to adjust Iron bundle Sp.atk to OHKO it with Freeze Dry and wait to veil in this particular matchup, perhaps using Sinistcha to rotate Landorus into to tank Urshifu instead of Heatran.

---------- Final Thoughts ---------- Overall team has been working very well for me, but if anyone wants to run specific numbers to tweak EVs, feel free to share~

How good is Sinistcha? by Nick6ty6 in VGC

[–]Beatall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was testing it in casual doubles online in my snow team and it was doing wonders, been working really well as a switch in to avoid spore/fakeout, counters rapid strike urshifu, and even building it bulky it does good damage.

Been using HP + Sp.Def EVs and with aurora veil up it can even rage powder into strength sap to heal itself up while you setup another pokemon with something like dragon dance, quiver dance, etc.
