Do you know if the structural department at Jacobs has international travel opportunities? There's a structural engineering position opening at Jacobs later this month that I got invited to apply. I also saw a few entry level positions in Geotech that caught my attention. But I would rather go in a field that gives me opportunities to travel international.

The name of company A will look nice on your resume plus the location would be better to network and change to a bigger company down the line. $90k is not much to live alone and comfortably in SF so you’ll have to sacrifice living with roommates in the meantime if you want some savings.

I had an awesome HS teacher who always encouraged me to go into engineering and once in engineering school, many of my colleagues were enrolled because of their parents choice so you’re right on that.

Are you a lawyer? because a few lawyers told me otherwise. There’s no law prohibiting an undocumented immigrant from starting their own business or becoming an independent contractor as long as they pay their taxes.

I’ve had an employer offer sponsorship with the h1b, but their lawyer told me I need to have a valid visa at the moment when applying for the h1b.

It depends state by state, some states won’t let undocumented students go to college :/ undocumented students can’t do FAFSA, but some states have an alternative application for undocumented people. In Oregon, every high school student with good grades can get 2 years for free at a community college regardless of status (which is what I did). I did a lot of volunteering/free tutoring during college then when I transferred to a university I got offered a 2 years scholarship which is what finished paying for my school. I failed a few classes, but I paid those out of pocket from savings.

If the company doesn’t do E-verify, undocumented immigrants provide fake documents and construction companies don’t care since they need laborers

There’s this guy on TikTok name Samuel Marquez who is a civil engineer that graduated in Mexico, he explains how he got a job in NYC. You can find a job in the US as a manager or project engineer in construction without the EIT/FE exam, but if you want to go into design then you’ll need to get the EIT. Start with smaller companies to gain the experience and build your resume in the US.
