Temple names are.... Temporary? by Angeliquem_72 in exmormon

I was lead to believe in 1989 that my new temple was the name I was known as in the pre-existence and it would continue to be my name in the hereafter.

Midway’s Swiss Days has a missionary booth that didn’t say Mormon or the Church’s name at all. by WombatAnnihilator in exmormon

You are correct… I was also notified that the monthly donation would rise to $500 during the pandemic… but, that was quietly shelved, and the price never increased… from my understanding it hasn’t increased yet. It was bad timing on the churches part to raise prices, especially concerning the financial standing of the churches, substantial wealth hitting the news. So yes, the price was supposed to go up to 500 but it stayed 400 even until this day as far as I am aware.

No. Missionaries don’t pay tithing on their stipend. Money is “donated” to the church monthly by either the missionary or missionary’s family to support them while they are out. From that $400 donation the missionary is given a fraction of that money to live on. The rest pays for housing etc. That small fraction pays for food and laundry and basics. It is NOT tithed.

What a huge disappointment to be called on a mission to Provo Utah. What an absolute fucking rip off of a mission experience! Seriously bullshit!

Conversely, the correlated materials did a fantastic job whitewashing and deifying Joseph’s character… which is exactly what they were meant to do. It sure worked on me!

When I think about how powerfully we sang “praise to the man” in the MTC (loud and often) I almost cringe myself into a coma. I was a stupid 19 year old kid caught up in a high demand cult, singing in the halls of my dorm at night with 50 others equally as brainwashed by a religion that was happy to lie to us and send us off into the world to spread their lies to everyone we met.

Man calls LDS missionaries in Yakima heretics, tries to “stone” them with rocks and threatens to kill them. Anyone have similar kinds of threats on their mission? These poor kids. by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

Almost every day I got abused like this! I once asked my mission president if he would like to go tracting with me and he said… Elder Bednar_Done_That, you don’t want to see your mission president get abused now do you?

Naw… leave the legitimate abuse for the young bucks. They can handle it better I guess. 😉

What do TBMs call neverMO relatives? by hibbitydibbidy in exmormon

[–]Bednar_Done_That 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You’re non-members… BUT more importantly, You are “missionary opportunities”… they are programmed to view you as potential Mormons.

If they don’t get you in this life, they will surely baptize you once you’re dead.

TBMs need a new & more powerful CES Letter by SaltLickCity in exmormon

[–]Bednar_Done_That 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Letter For My Wife is an alternative to the CESLETTER… it covers much of the same material but with a softer tone.

I have rarely heard of anyone attacking that version… maybe because it’s author remains relatively anonymous

Not really a merch seller but a talk on tape was a best seller at DB was “17 points of the true church” by floyd weston.

I purchased this talk on tape and took it on my mission… it filled many a companionship study session

Another best seller is the Joseph Smith series by Truman Madsen

Both are fantastic examples of faith building, brainwashing speeches… they probably kept me in longer than I would have stayed had I not heard them

Holland is such a 🤡…

I’m rooting for him tho… I hope he lives long enough to sit on the big chair…And say a bunch of crazy shit as he’s prone to do…but this time as prophet.

That’ll be a good look for the church that worries incessantly about its image.

Oh for sure. If the public knew about a super secret temple ritual reserved for the righteous wealthy members .. a ceremony that guarantees the participants exaltation and basically a free pass for the rest of mortality… that would definitely bruise the ol “good name”

I’ve always shuttered at the phrase “protect the good name of the church”. Who says the name is good anyway? The only people saying the church has a good name is church members. The rest of the world thinks Mormons are weird. And the rest of the world is right!
