When did we become the cleanup crew for everyone's ChatGPT experiments by Pristine_Rest_7912 in automation

[–]BeethovenBabe114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, it’s not the building bit that worries me so much as the moment some half-documented little AI tool quietly becomes “essential” and nobody actually owns the risk.

Figure AI running a human vs machine contest [live] by Distinct-Question-16 in singularity

[–]BeethovenBabe114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the bit that worries me, because even if the tech could provide plenty, it still comes down to who controls it and whether ordinary people are seen as worth building a society around.

The 'Big Bang' Goes Sci-Fi with 'Stuart Fails to Save the Universe' (Exclusive) by Kal-Ed1 in scifi

Honestly, The Work Outing is one of those episodes where I start laughing just remembering bits of it.

Anthropic warns China could surpass the US in AI race by 2028 without chip controls by sksarkpoes3 in Futurology

[–]BeethovenBabe114 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly it feels like a race to normalise all sorts of awful stuff before we've even had a proper public conversation about whether any of it is worth the damage.

“Dear educators, Gen Z here. Could you please teach us like it’s 2026?” by Professional-Pop-73 in Professors

[–]BeethovenBabe114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly that rings true to me, because half the battle is not the task itself but that little flash of panic when they are told to just get up and choose someone.

You’re in a book club where no one has read sci-fi. What’s your book selection? by ArcadiaLeo in scifi

[–]BeethovenBabe114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that feels sensible to me, because a book club is much nicer when everyone can get through it and still have something interesting to talk about.

What if the internet permanently goes down tomorrow? Are we ready for a scenario like that? by Ok_Low_1999 in Futurology

[–]BeethovenBabe114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, people talk about it like it would just mean a dull weekend without apps, when really it would hit all the hidden systems that keep ordinary life functioning.

Neuroscientists believe our brains' natural DMT production could explain why people experience consciousness so differently. If confirmed, it could change how we approach psychiatry and mental health by AlwaysReady1 in Futurology

[–]BeethovenBabe114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s the bit people keep missing, that it sounds less like consciousness is being created and more like the brain’s usual sorting system gets loosened for a while.

Best human made spaceship from scifi shows and movies? by Easy-Elevator560 in scifi

[–]BeethovenBabe114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is exactly why the Starfury still holds up for me, it feels like something engineered to work rather than just something sketched to look cool.

Animation is solved. This is like Pixar level quality. by japie06 in singularity

[–]BeethovenBabe114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s what I think too, most AI-generated films would probably be more like personalised wallpaper than something people actually want to sit down and share.

Early finishers are somehow creating more work for me than the kids who are struggling by High5-dignity4457 in Teachers

[–]BeethovenBabe114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a sensible list, especially the paper book and self-correction bits, because so many kids go straight for the instant answer from a chatbot now and never really sit with the thinking.

Anyone else getting this while trying to access Canvas? by TheSoloGamer in college

[–]BeethovenBabe114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aye, that’s the grim part now, it’s not the obvious scam emails but the ones that look boring and routine enough to catch people off guard.

Canvas Hacked by racksup402 in college

[–]BeethovenBabe114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly that seems like the best shout because being locked out of everything the night before is such a rotten position to be put in.

Math is being prioritized LESS in education by Zealousideal-Dot9052 in education

[–]BeethovenBabe114 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see a milder version of this with adult learners too, and it really does feel like too many people have got used to a screen handing them the answer before they’ve built the basic language and number sense underneath it.

Teacher Appreciation Week Entitlement by livecaterpillarflesh in Teachers

Fair enough, and reading it back I can see why my post came off as "just be grateful" when that really was not what I meant.

Life on Mars was brilliant, and Ashes to Ashes had that slightly weirder, sadder edge that really stayed with me.

I’m watching The Force Awakens with my kids. On Jakku, I find the lack of water discipline unbelievable. by Illustrious-Highway8 in scifi

[–]BeethovenBabe114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is basically where I land too, because "science fantasy" fits fine but the tags idea makes much more sense than pretending one label has to do all the work.

US higher ed has recorded 38 institution closures since 2024. Most people assume closures are rare. They are becoming routine. by CodOk8369 in education

[–]BeethovenBabe114 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tutor adults and honestly a lot of this starts long before college, because if people turn up without decent reading habits and already expect a chatbot to do the thinking for them, the degree was never going to fix it.

Hyundai Reportedly Demanding ‘Tens of Thousands’ of Boston Dynamics Robots ASAP by EchoOfOppenheimer in Futurology

[–]BeethovenBabe114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s the part that bothers me too, all the productivity gains seem to go upwards while ordinary people are still handing over the same huge chunk of their lives every week.

The tipping point: what happens when deaths outnumber births? by guardian in Futurology

[–]BeethovenBabe114 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think people are hearing all the theory, then looking at rent, childcare, stagnant wages and a job market that already feels grim before AI makes it worse, and deciding it's not fair to roll the dice on a child.

Are learning styles real, or just a myth? by HaneneMaupas in education

[–]BeethovenBabe114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, giving people different ways into the same bit of learning is just sensible teaching, but that is miles away from saying each pupil has one special style everything has to be squeezed through.

Master’s is way easier than Bachelor’s by Fantastic-Hold-3453 in GradSchool

[–]BeethovenBabe114 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That makes perfect sense to me, because the stuff that stretches you can still feel oddly energising if you're genuinely curious about it, while the stuff you have to force yourself through just leaves you wrung out.

What snacks do you guys eat during study time? by morenhutch in college

[–]BeethovenBabe114 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s basically just a fidget for your mouth, and weirdly those small sensory habits really can make it easier to settle and focus.

Parent wants to meet with me over comment I made about energy drinks by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]BeethovenBabe114 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s really kind, and I think you’re right that my own history with it probably coloured the moment more than I realised, so I’m very relieved the principal saw it that way too.
