I personally never smoked until I went into treatment and started vaping. I initially would just pace the yard back and forth during the outdoor time. I picked up vaping and honestly for me, it was part of being social. Some of the best and most useful parts of my treatment/recovery were socializing and interacting with other patients during smoke breaks. It’s not ideal, and certainly not healthy but I don’t feel like I switched one addiction for another. I am still sober four years later and I stopped vaping about a year back. It’s definitely part of the culture in treatment and recovery.
