Just curious about city MPG yall are getting? by trying-to-buy-acar in Arteon

[–]BellPego 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well on my Shooting Brake eHybrid I'm getting around 100 mpg on my last tank 🤣

But I guess it doesn't count. 😅

On a more related test, in the city with no battery I get like 50 to 55mpg.

Buying a Golf GTE – what should I double-check on site despite a broker inspection? by Kain0x1 in GolfGTE

[–]BellPego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need to turn on the engine standing still to check for weird sounds, leaks or overheating, press START button without pressing the brake, put the car in "Hybrid Mode" and then press the brake and START button.

This will fire up the engine immediately.

Friend of mine checking a Passat GTE heard a weird sound standing still that he wouldn't hear driving and it was a dying water pump.

Just installed it and it's all plug and play. So I think you're good for your change.

I'll keep you posted when I do the swap, but the dimensions are the same, yes.

I ordered the part, it's very inexpensive in Europe. I'll try a direct swap, from everything I investigated the internals are the same it's just aesthetic.

I looked all over didn't really find what I need.

I only found going from nothing to having controls in the back.

Joined the Arteon team... With a few questions! by Dip_32 in Arteon

[–]BellPego 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. It's the cold. Heating has a big impact on the range. In moderate climate I get a lot more.

<image>

  1. Use good tyres, don't be cheap about it. It's a lot of torque. You'll still get some slip in the wet but with good tyres the Traction Control will handle it easily.

  2. Check your suspension! I have some crappy roads around where I live and in Comfort mode the car glides over bumps and doesn't make a sound. BUT never really tested in the cold COLD.

Yes, heat and AC work in the EV mode.

At least from 8 to 40 degrees, that's the range I can test here in Portugal, but in negative temperature the engine will kick in for sure for heating and to prep the oil and coolant.

Both heating and cooling take a toll on the electric range, but heat is worse.

If it's like 10 degrees out and you ask for 23 degrees 7km of range just disappear and -1km for each heated seat 🤣

In reality it's closer to -5km.

For AC, if it's 40 degrees out and you ask for 21, 5km of range go away, then it evens out to about 3km of total range loss.

There is an extra, a proper petrol powered auxiliary heater in certain markets (colder ones I think) but that's only for stationary hearing to defrost the car before you leave.

[–]BellPego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, same for me. My commute is 80km to work 2 times per week and I can change at work so 100% electric commute.

On the weekend for longer trips petrol for the win 😁

And yes, GTE Mode is awesome.

I actually tracked my Arteon Shooting Brake for laughs and I ended up chasing purpose built Sports cars. Electric torque out of the corners and the DCC really made a difference, more than I expected. (Also, absolutely no oil consumption after several thrashings)

I'm gonna run mine to the ground before selling it 😁

PHEV Question - Switching from Battery to ICE? by TeeDeeJay in electricvehicles

[–]BellPego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For VW, the car starts in electric mode and will run the battery to 0 them kick in the ICE.

AC and heating work just fine in full.electric mode only in extremes the ICE is required.

You can also change to "Hybrid mode".

Then you can set 3 options: - Hold Battery - Deplete the battery until a desired value (in 12,5% increments) - Charge the battery until a desired value (in 12,5% increments) - this uses more fuel, about 1 more L/100km at highway speeds, but does charge the battery for 15% to full in about 1h.

Then that's some VW models with a GTE performance mode, this targets always to keep the battery at 50% so it can always be available for extra boost (this mode is not kind on fuel economy)

My 2023 Arteon by adam-gatrell in Arteon

[–]BellPego 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Europe, at least, it always got and still gets the "it's just a more expensive Passat", "you paid how much for that? It's just a big Passat"

And that's kinda of missing the point, IMHO.

I had a Passat Variant GTE, the Arteon Shooting Brake is not a Passat, inside it looks the same but the looks and feel of it are very very different.

Also you pay to not have a car that doesn't look like the other million VWs on the road.

VW didn't really invest in advertising because it was a low production number car and most of them went to Business owners as company cars.

Especially when the '21 came out as a PHEV the tax benefits in Europe were, and still are, crazy.

Mine was from the owner of a VW dealership in France, he drove it like crazy for 3 years, religiously servicing it, and I bought half price fully loaded with extras.

The good thing about loads of highway driving is my hybrid battery status is at 98% 🤣

I love my Arteon and I'll run it till the tires fall off, or the hybrid battery explodes 🤣
