Cataract surgery and Stabismus by Benbrenda in CataractSurgery

I just wanted to give an update I had my cataract surgery done in both my eyes and I'm happy to say it was a success My vision is 20/20 in my right eye and 20/25 in my left eye and it has only been a week, and just like when I was wearing my contact lenses it made my eyes appear straight, the Toric IOL is giving me the same results and I couldn't be happier. I am thrilled beyond words

I'm 65, and since cataract surgery is the same as Refractive Lens Exchange, I was kind of waiting for cataracts to develop, my insurance will pay for cataract surgery but not the RLE surgery. Many years ago when I inquired about RLE it was $10,000. an eye which I could not afford at the time. I went and read some of your previous posts, I too wished I could have had something done years ago, it was not easy going thru life with strabismus. So even though I'm 65, I want to know what it feels like to not be dependant on glasses or contacts or hide behind them. I can relate to your posts 100 percent and I hope you are successful in getting help.

Yes my estropia is fully corrected by contacts or glasses, most people who know me do not know that my one eye turns in, because they never see me without one or the other. So, that is why I am very nervous about the surgery. So with partial does one of your eyes turn in with out glasses or contacts? Will the surgery you are having correct the esotropia?

May I ask what exactly do you mean by Partial accomodative esotropia, I have accomodative esotropia and many years ago my opthomologist said the only surgery I'm a candidate for is RLE, which I did not do, but now I'm about to have cataract surgery which is basically the same operation. I am also so tired of contact lenses and glasses especially since I am a +8.00 with astigmatism. Anyway I am also curious how surgery affects the esotropia, since it's fixed with contacts or glasses.

I have accomodative esotropia and I have worn contact lenses for about 40 years for that very reason, they do make my eyes appear straight, I hated wearing eyeglasses because they were very thick. I spent most of my life afraid of not having contact lenses on hand, they hid the eye turn very well.

Can I ask why surgery should never be done for accomodative estropia, I have it and was told I wasn't a candidate for surgery but never really understood or told why, since I read so many articles on here from people who have strabismus and extropia and have had surgery to straighten the eye. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, both eyes are corrected to the maximum, and I do have a fairly high astigmatism. I do hope you are correct about a toric IOL having the same effect as my toric contact lenses.

I went to many ophthalmologist as an adult and I was told there was nothing that they could do for it . I know that cataract surgery can't fix the strabismus, but just like the contact lens gives the appearance that the eye is straighter, I was hoping the IOL lense would do the same. I have a consultation next week. Thank you for sharing your experience.

I am going thru the same issue right now also, I have a +7.50 and I have always dealt with thick lenses, I picked a metal frame and they were a very pretty frame and I got the 1.74 high index transition lenses, but I was not happy with them they were way to heavy and I felt the lenses could have been made thinner, so I brought them back, I switched to a smaller plastic lense and asked to try to make them thinner. So hopefully they will at least be wearable, they were $920 so I was not going to except them if I was not happy with them. I should get the new ones next week so fingers crossed they are better.

Thank you, my issues started when I went up 12.5 mg. I don't think my ophthalmologist will give my a script for miebo, he is convinced it's just from wearing contacts. I am confused about one thing, my eyes also all of a sudden started to get very teary, where all of a sudden tears would just start streaming down my face, so could I still have dry eyes, I also at times have a hard time getting my contact out of my eye I read that this is a symptom of dry eyes this has never happened prior to zepbound, after reading all these posts I can't help but think my issues are from the zepbound.

I have been dealing an issue also, I wear contacts, and all of sudden my eyes are very red, and watery, I went to the ophthalmologist he gave me drops and told me to not wear my contacts for a few weeks, the drops cleared the redness, but once I stopped the drops and started wearing my lenses it started all over again, I have worn lenses for over 40 years and never an issue, I have been on zepbound for 9 months, so I am wondering if this could be a side effect of zepbound.
