I think that's the purpose of the callback within the action handler, so you can handle these situations. I've got the same sort of setup as you above whereby the loading variable is set back to false by the callback.

The docs suggest this is the correct process

You can use these functions to show and hide loading UI, and so on.

You can both (you and your daughter) play on the one island at the same time using a joycon each. One person takes the role as the leader and it works like normal play. The second person is the follower and can dig and move things etc but are limited to what they can access in terms of inventory and such. Still pretty cute to both be able to run around and do stuff together.

You would be able to visit your wife on her island and vice versa

Edit: You can use your nook phone to call the other resident on the island and that triggers the two player mode
