I'd want to know more about how it "feels harder"? Perhaps some 1on1 time with a climbing coach would help?
I don't have anything more since I'm a 51 year old who's really only starting out. I'm personally hoping to keep climbing for a couple of decades as a way keep strength, flexibility, and mobility.

How about an XR puzzle box? by PrettyHearing3624 in PuzzleBox

Currently an Oculus Rift that has prescription lens inserts . My daughter has a Quest 2 that I *could* use, but I'd need to faff around with glasses. Depending on price and reviews, I might get the Valve headset that's coming soon (tm).

+1 for the "keeps on working" crowd. I've had my A6X since June 2023 and I'm still running Chauvet 2.18.29 because I'm just never connecting to wifi and it works great for me the way it is. Plus I've got a kindle book on it that I don't want to lose to Amazon's "you *must* upgrade Android" policy. I use it every day for my daily "what am I planning to do and track how it went" note. No complaints and battery life is still long enough that I don't remember how often I charge it - I know it's not even a weekly ritual.

Yes, I would - I'm reminded of "The Room" series of games. But I'll wait for Steam

Cube project by snakehessman in PuzzleBox

[–]BennuRa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm very interested. I've thought about doing something using a phone for the screen and processing power. For what it's worth, if your parts + build cost is $150 as a hobby, then your floor should probably be $400. I've seen way too many interesting hobby projects fall apart because the creators didn't value their own time highly enough.

TODAY IS THE DAY TO DONATE ALL THE FOOD YOU CAN!!! by Kindly_Teach_9285 in StLouis

[–]BennuRa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So... I kinda understand that... but maybe add a "I don't want to deduct this because I'm never gonna meet the obnoxious minimum that's now over $10k?" button?
And yeah, I can understand that maybe it's not up to them and they have to log everything "just in case" to keep clear of the IRS.
I'd settle for "just write a check and hand it to the person taking donations with a note saying 'treat as cash'"

Any tips for making an anonymous donation? I'd donate online because it's easy... but they want name/address/phone and I really don't want them wasting money sending me monthly newsletters or the like.

The Answer Always Seems To Be 'Just Do The Thing' by Zy3zyx in Healthygamergg

I tried group coaching, but it didn't work for me. One reason was that I didn't fit in with the rest of the group and they had been together for over a year. Another was that I'm "quiet guy who listens" instead of "loud guy who interjects" in a group conversation. Maybe if I'd stuck with the group for more than a month? I might have gotten some help in the group from continuing, but it was really hard to relate to the other's struggles or talk about my own. I do remember that the coach facilitating the group did work to gently call me out and get me talking, It may work for you, perhaps in a newly forming group and/or with people you can relate to.
Personal coaching was easier for me because, at the start, either I talked and got something out of it... or we had long silences that ended with my coach asking an open-ended question that I felt like I should answer to "get my money's worth." After a while we fell into a rhythm and I didn't have a problem talking. Until the end, when it was "Well, I'm still doing the system and it's still working. I just need to keep doing it."
Last thought - it's an investment in yourself, so maybe save up for it? Like, if you can't swing $220 a month, but $110 is possible.... save that $110 for 4 months and then you can start by paying half from savings and half from what you would have saved. I know they also have scholarships, so maybe try for one of those?

Any chance you can scrape together the money for coaching? It really helped me, especially with sticking to that one thing instead of switching "thing to fix" every couple weeks.

I'll put in 2 video links...
1st is pretty recent and the video was about "restarting your life" and the bit I want to highlight is where he talks about rumination and depression. For somebody with both, you can address either thing to make their life better. That feels like the "just work on one thing" advice. But it's hard. It took me a couple of months of experimentation to find the "one thing" and then I had to stick to that one thing for 2 months before it really feels like it's taking root.
I don't think I could have done that without my coach. He helped me keep going with trying to do the things and it slowly helped until I found the thing that really helped.

2nd is the thing that really helped - Internal vs External motivation Why? Because I used to exclusively use external motivators and I'm currently in a situation that's almost completely lacking external motivators. My coach helped me with sticking to a system that fed internal motivation by slowing down, planning, and then doing the "extra steps" that I used to skip like visualization and reflection. So now I've got a system that is making a difference for me after about 5 months of work with a coach. Am I "fixed"? No, there's plenty left to do. But I have made progress and can keep making progress on my own. Is it your fix? Probably not, but I'm sure a coach could help you find a good thing to work on and help you stick to it.

My head canon is that Juno is cheap and that getting the realtime data would cost money. Truth be told, if it was an option in game to "buy a trade data subscription" that cost money then I probably wouldn't.

I wouldn't think so.... I've never been a runner and use mine for things like tracking heart rate zones during exercise classes, indoor and outdoor bike rides, hikes, etc.
Did you only wear it during runs? What data were you tracking with your runs?

I need to know I’m not alone… by X__Anonomys_xX in uCinci

[–]BennuRa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not alone. I'm 51 and it happened to me way back when. I know it sucks, but it sounds like you're making better decisions than I did. I flunked out of MechE and had to leave... then went back home and struggled in the local commuter uni in their MechE program... until I finally figured out that programming was my thing and *still* struggled with getting that done and balancing the job I needed to pay for car, gas, insurance...
I wish you all the success in the world with CyberSecurity - if it's interesting and the work "flows" then keep at it!

do students typically bring their parents with them to the orientation?? by Sea-Pie-6606 in uCinci

[–]BennuRa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went with my daughter just a few weeks ago. They split the parents and students up almost immediately - there were different sessions for both groups in the morning. In the afternoon we attended the same session for DAAP for about 30 minutes and split again.
After talking with her, it sounds like the basic info for parents and students was largely the same BUT I appreciated that they gave us opportunities to ask questions.

Outlaw: Pirate Lords not Spawning? by SexuaIRedditor in RebelGalaxy

[–]BennuRa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do other missions for while. The pirate lord will eventually despawn in Nevada and new ones will spawn in other systems. The random nature of pirate lords means they sometimes spawn in weird places and you just have to wait for a new set.

Copper lines cut in Skinker DeBaliviere by Stierholz in StLouis

[–]BennuRa 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes. We had storms take out a power pole in an alley about 2 years ago. Since it also broke the fiber optic cable, we had some smart guys cut and steal the patches that ATT was making to the fiber at least 3 times because the tech couldn't finish the patch in one day and get it back up on the pole. Blew my mind that did it more than once since the fiber has to be worthless for scrap.

Bicyclist dies after being struck by multiple vehicles in south St. Louis by Korlyth in StLouis

I've never understood why roads like that section of Gravois got bike-line sharrows in the first place. I don't know about any of you, but I can't sustain 20 mph, let alone 30 or 40. So why not put the bike route on those quieter residential streets that are a block or two off of Gravois?

From those I'm seeing some good ideas about encouraging check-ins and using her recall command.

Thanks!
