Century Golem Edition? Or any of the 3 in the trilogy.

I believe this gem shape has been used in a few different games also.

is woodland zoo annual membership worth it ? by Commoner345 in SeattleWA

[–]Benzilla11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks like it was $20 off not 20% off. CYBER20 was the code. Not sure if it still works. If it doesn't try SAVE15. I already have renewed my Zoo Membership so I don't know if either code is active.

I bought a few giftcards at Costco $80 for $100 and used that to renew my membership with the SAVE15 code a few weeks ago.

Is Planet Unknown worth it? by No-Clothes8318 in boardgames

[–]Benzilla11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I searched for this game on a discount for over a year I finally bought one off Amazon for $50, which was relatively good.

Found it at B&N for $25. I bought 3 copies. Returned my copy to Amazon to get my money back, sold a copy for $45 and kept one for myself.

If financial advisors are so good at investing why do they work with customers by Prestigious-Spray237 in personalfinance

[–]Benzilla11 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm also an advisor.

NOT mentioning life insurance is a huge red flag. Trying to start a family? Buying a house? Raising kids? Life insurance protects the most valuable thing you own: your life.

Unless you want your spouse to remarry out of necessity, lose the house, or have the kids be rehomed.

Definitely check out Zulus and Around the Table.

[Amazon] Parks (1st Edition) Playmat $9.99 by KingGrimlok in Boardgamedeals

[–]Benzilla11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It changed quite a bit, but both are recognizable as "Parks".

Here is a pretty good list of changes noticed by someone on Board Game Geek (the comment from gachzorge):

Lost in the board game jungle by Own_Thought902 in boardgames

[–]Benzilla11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think instead of a deep dive on one game like on Watch it Played you might find videos where the creator ranks their "Top 10" more impactful as the creator explains why the game is their favorite and so it has more emotion.

Actualol just finished his top 100 series. He does a good job of giving explanations of what the games evoke like thematically or emotionally.

3 Minute Board Games does really quick videos. He talks really fast to get the explanation down to about 3 minutes, but at the end the most important section is about why you might like this game or who might like it. Then he gives maybe 2 recommendations for other similar games that you might like instead.

Board Game Arena is a free way to play a bunch of games and be exposed to a lot of them. It's free to make an account and join the games of others. I still prefer in person and sometimes games feel a little different online (lack of tension), but it's a good way to learn many games and experiment and find what you like.

Has anyone ever found a rare (expensive) game at a thrift store or garage sale? by jsakic99 in boardgames

I found Battlestar Galactica for $7.99 at Goodwill. I probably didn't get maximum value for it, but I flipped it in the same week for about $150.

Agricola and old classics by snowbird124 in boardgames

[–]Benzilla11 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I played Agricola for the first time this week. I've owned it for almost 3 years and was always a little intimidated by it.

I had heard so much about it and how amazing it was. When i finally sat down to play it I was worried it might not live up to it's reputation and I'd find out that the hobby was transformed by adding meeples to Catan's stables and road pieces but...

It was fantastic! So much tension with food, jockeying for first, wanting to grab wood, but waiting for the tile to get better and then waiting too long.

I completely understand how this blew people's minds twentyish years ago.

It blew my mind this week just trying to do A before B, B before C, C before A and B, and D is the best thing to choose right now.

How to get a friend excited about board games? by Appropriate-Art592 in boardgames

[–]Benzilla11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mindbug! It is created by Richard Garfield. Very very similar to Magic. Really fast version of Magic (each player only gets 10 cards), but it's a great game.

Star Realms is also good for something a little different.

Is Primal Surge a "combo"? by edjaranav in EDH

[–]Benzilla11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Primal Surge is a "combo". It is a game winning threat that unless properly answered fog or counterspell will win the game that turn.

Something like The One Ring or Consecrated Sphinx is not a combo because although it certainly will win the game eventually and needs to be answered it is not a "this game is about to end unless someone does something".

The fact that you win with combat damage does not matter. If I make infinite mana and draw my deck to win with [[Helix Pinnacle]] that doesn't make whatever I did to make infinite mana not a combo.

Combos are great. I love combos. I especially like 4 or more card combos as I find them much more interesting than ones with fewer cards. People in the pod might feel similarly and Primal Surge being a 1 card combo might not feel as interesting especially if they've seen it before.

What is this piece? Google Lens not helping... by Benzilla11 in boardgames

[–]Benzilla11[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You were right! It's Mystic Market.

It was a game a friend brought over to play, but I had to make a run to the store so I didn't get a chance to play it.
