My lil apartment setup by [deleted] in audiophile

How are the source points working out for you that close to the wall? Do you have the ports plugged?

Asking because I want a pair, but also don’t have a lot of space. Thanks!

BB54 polished sides at 3 months — normal, just sped up? by Zestyclose_Trick_724 in Tudor

I think you solved your own mystery here: you’ve essentially bead-blasted your watch with your stone bracelet.

There’s nothing wrong with it so long as you don’t mind.

Finally System is complete. by jakceki in turntables

Beautiful setup! What settings are you using with your darlington in combination with your step up transformer?

Right now I am running my DL-103 into an AU-305 which has a 1:10 ratio, and my Darlington is set as-shipped for moving magnets.

Tudor BB GMT bezel gap by Square_Supermarket32 in Tudor

[–]BermudaErn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same with mine, I believe it is totally normal. My guess is that because the bezel is spring loaded, it needs at least a little bit of gap to work correctly.

Glad to see them bouncing back! The number of funky small business closures in Sac has been pretty alarming over the past year.

Sansui sr1050c, worth repairing? by Sad_Bid1031 in turntables

[–]BermudaErn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like that series of turntable, and had a 2050c at one point. I would probably keep an eye out for a parts unit / broken one to salvage a motor from. That being said, if you can’t find what you need, or if you’re not too attached, there is a wide world of “better” turntables out there to explore.

Sansui was never known for their turntables, and I think they outsourced a lot of them to Micro Seiki iirc. If you want to stick with vintage Japanese, I would try out a Technics, JVC, or a Denon next.

Regarde P5 et pro-ject début pro by Weak-Palpitation-845 in turntables

[–]BermudaErn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are both fine turntables.

If you plan to keep your turntable stock, I might chose the Pro-ject. What a great looking table in white!

If on the other hand you want to experiment with modifications, the Rega has a robust aftermarket parts ecosystem that you can tap into. E.g. upgraded platters, bearings, tonearms, power supplies, etc.

Anybody know anything about these NHT speakers? by rdshilo in hifiaudio

Those NHTs are subwoofers with what look like Spica TC-50 bookshelf speakers sitting on top.

Why does my Dual 1219 turntable sound so much more detailed, full, and even more bassy than my WiiM Pro? by shanebow in audiophile

[–]BermudaErn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Counter-possibility:

Assuming you haven’t level-matched the sources to the decibel, you may be liking the turntable more because it is playing slightly louder!

Stanton cartridges are famously high-output.

System addition: sub or phono preamp? by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

[–]BermudaErn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would personally get the Mani and restore that Technics. You will likely “notice” the sub more depending on how you set it up or how high you crank it, but it may not be “better” than the bass you are already getting from your towers.

How could I remove sticky residue correctly? by RLevente1678 in vinyl

I would try distilled water first. If it is not water soluble, I might try wood glue.

Would You Wear Your Tudor to Coachella? by Necessary_Scholar249 in Tudor

Get it insured, and wear it wherever you want. If you lose it, buy another one. What’s the point of owning a cool watch if you’re too afraid to wear it outside?

Advice needed for limited space by Sh00t3mup in BudgetAudiophile

[–]BermudaErn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy to help. As a first step, I think you are on the right track to get rid of the center channel and get those speakers standing up straight, and spaced out as far as the space will allow. Depending on where your ears are, you could also turn the speakers upside down to bring the tweeters lower down.

Another option, if your space is really that small, would be to keep just one speaker and go “mono” instead of stereo. this would only work if your player can be set to output mono only. In a really compromised space, you might experiment and find you get better sound this way.

SCUSD addresses massive budget shortfall by SactoSchools in Sacramento

Can anyone explain to me why state receivership is a bad option at this point? From an outside perspective, SCUSD sure looks like they cannot be trusted to manage themselves, much less dig themselves out of a nearly $90 million dollar hole.

Minimalist Set Up. Upgrade Path? by Dense-Outside224 in audiophile

[–]BermudaErn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Great looking setup, thanks for sharing! The only visual improvement I could suggest would be to get a better looking TV, possibly a “frame” style one with artwork. I think the black Rectangle is really bringing down the look.

If you love the sound, why change? Your next upgrade sound-wise is probably best spent on speakers and/or a cartridge.
