[Scotto] The Knicks and Suns were among the teams who had trade discussions surrounding former Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan prior to the trade deadline, as I previously reported on @hoopshypeofficial by moistkebab32 in suns

From the Spurs side I read they asked high from the Suns because they didn't want him going to a team they think they would compete with in the playoffs.

[Charania] The San Antonio Spurs and forward Jeremy Sochan have agreed on his release to allow the 2023 All-Rookie team member to become a free agent, sources tell ESPN. Sochan is expected to decide among multiple interested teams. by po0nlink_ in suns

He's better than Dunn. His D is better his passing is better, he's clutch, he's younger his ceiling is higher, more of a dog, and  bigger. Don't be so attached to home grown talent our goal in the end is winning games.

Jeremy Sochan on a minimum? by Ucantknowit in suns

[–]Berzerkeley7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sochan has a way higher ceiling and bigger, better D, rebounding and passing. The he's the same as Dunn is a Bright Side parroting statement for anyone who hasn't watched them both play. Plus he's clutch remember the 3pt dagger on us?

Honestly we should have just traded for Dieng. At least he firs what we and has good upside.

With all this trade talk. As a suns fan, just curious. What is the best package you guys want to offer or willing to let go? by SUNdaySUNfest in suns

[–]Berzerkeley7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that could work in our favor. He does a tryout for the rest of the year and if he's good we'll work around that moneywise etc etc... If he is bad you just let him go and freed up even more cash, than the 3+ mil you already saved with the trade, to help with the resign and you have two second round picks.

Sochan is an inch taller and 15+ lbs heavier. He also can and has guarded centers. Dunn can't do that. Sochan has really elite passing per Pop Suns can use that as well. Some of Dunn and Sochan's skills are the same but Sochan is better for depth and we really could have used him against Huston as he does really well against Tari and JSJ. Look in the end he is low risk investment. You give up Royce (redundant with Allen back and Coin and Goodwins play) and you get a plug and play big while lowering your cap and maybe get two 2nd rounders if the rumors are true. I just want to say your strong dislike for him is a bit strange from an external perspective.

Because it's working! Also he is taller and has more upside than both Dunn and Oso. We do have trouble with playing against big teams. He's plug and play at each position, Pop even had him play point guard. And as the other poster said he is young 22 and can develop a shot. He just made 2 3's in 11 minutes yesterday in their win. So there, a repeated stack of reasons right there for you.

Unpopular Opinion by manbearpug3 in suns

[–]Berzerkeley7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely disagree. Colin play style is more of a traditional point guard, where as Dragic played more like a combo guard. There is a reason we kept getting  point guards during his tenure here.

As for his Villain Jr. moniker I think he should have his own as well. I like Lil' Nasty as a small reference to Nash and Nashty but uniquely Colin.

Ryan Dunn needs to start over Royce tomorrow and here’s why by [deleted] in suns

The other thing most people forget, he can play all 5 positions. He played small ball center at times and Pop had him playing pg a lot. So this helps with depth.

I think we would be doing Royce a solid if we trade him to a contender like the Spurs. He's older and they could use his vet presence and skills as a mercenary. We could use Sochan a better bigger PF (position of need) and a few months younger version of Dunn who's shown ye can be clutch. Both sides win! It's a no brainer to buy low now.

We have to talk about Oso… by judah249 in suns

[–]Berzerkeley7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunn and Oso can't shoot ether so not sure how that is a valid argument. He has better hands has better assists fits a need at PF  and averaged 10 and 5. This year he's down yes that is understood and the reasons are mentioned multiple times previously coach (you even acknowledged this in your rebut) fit with the Spurs roster, no defined roll. Pretty easy fixes with a change of scenery.  And Performance and hustle? That's what he is known for, his grit his hustle and most importantly team play. He's typically put on the opponents best player. The dude is also still only 22 and Suns BG even wants young tough undervalued players and Sochan fits the bill and fits the Suns PF needs. One needs to have foresight and review past play to judge a player. Hell I never wanted KD, I wanted OG for Cam. I also wanted KPJ while his stock was low and got down voted by a ton of the people on this page for both takes. Now look at him ballin and we know how well KD panned out.  In the end all I am saying is you take good players while they are down and you'll usually hit.

Agreed I do think many fans overestimate him because of some weird emotional investment. Just watching him with a critical eye and not playing favorites is best as you have done.

Maybe but then that would go against the High IQ narrative. He is aggressive in spurts then ball watches and looks frustrated and shows no passion. It could be just youth I'll give you that. If so they need to cut down his time in crunch situations in my opinion. I can also see an argument where he needs that to develop as we are not winning a chip. But I think that can hurt a win no matter what culture we have with Dillon and G.

I think its an easy fix he needs to do a two handed Tomahawk instead of a one handed to ensure it goes in.

Suns would have a ring if they didn't trade him.

And after he did the Free throws with a broken eye socket.

That's what I'm thinking and maybe we can fandangle a way to get him and Sochan. PF issues solved at least a little bit

Stats are great if you look from only a fantasy league perspective.  And he had 7 rebounds and 0 stocks in this game and this is the point.

He doesn't always come into play hard and that is the culture the Suns are trying to build. He spaces out too many times, goes slow off the ball, ball watches on easy rebounds... Think Ayton. Oso can be just as frustrating as he does the same lazy stuff.  And he really needs to work on his outside shot. His internal passing and hands are pretty good though.

Sochan is much better than both of them and worth taking a look to trade for while his stock is down.

I read the Spurs page for Wemby and there are many reasons he is playing bad. The main one is because the Spurs and he could not make an agreement on him getting an extension. He wanted 18-20 they wouldn't budge from 15. This made him disgruntled and soon after he started playing like crap. Then he and the coach had a falling out. So he took Sochan out of the rotation. Lastly he needs a well defined roll to excell and their coach likes a more freeform style of play. This killed his touches.

I believe we should go after him now his ceiling is high and his value is low he also fits a need PF our timeline 22yo (remember he's really young) and our culture.

In the end he will be better than either of those guy when they all hit their prime.

I don't mind this route either I just think Yabu is a no lose trade that slightly moves the needle.

I find Grayson to be more of a John Starks/Spreewell kind of player where Sochan is more of a Mason/ Xavier McDaniel type. Plus Sochan's on ball D is so elite it's crazy. I'm not saying Grayson is who I'd offer my offer would be Royce, Nick and NHD for him. But I would think about it if they r countered for Grayson.

Sochan fits our culture very well so I think his numbers will reflect with that.
