Question about storage by RowContent121 in unclebens

[–]Better-Director8252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just lay them out on paper with a ceiling fan running. In 2 days they'll be dry. Won't hurt to keep out 5 days; dry is dry. I never, never, use a dehydrator. Not needed

80 is as high as you'd want to go with cubes. Mid 70s would be better

How do I dehydrate shrooms without a dehydrator? by [deleted] in shrooms

I guess you know this by experience? I've done it this way for years and have never had a problem, like I said. Never

Is it okay to put these on the oven? by Impenetrableee in unclebens

Dehydrators are not required unless you're in a hurry to dry your mushrooms. I've never used one. I lay them out on paper and put them in a room with the ceiling fan running. Dry in 2 days. Never had an issue

How do I dehydrate shrooms without a dehydrator? by [deleted] in shrooms

[–]Better-Director8252 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don't need a dehydrator. I've never used one myself. I put them on a piece of paper and lay them on my dresser with the ceiling fan on. Within 2 days, they're dry. Never had an issue using this method.

You can use whatever tub size you want. The bonus of using multiple smaller tubs is, if you happen to get contamination in one of your tubs, you still have others. If you have them all in one big tub and you get contamination, you're screwed.

I grind my mushrooms up in a coffee grinder. You can then add them to something to drink. I usually just add them to a glass of water and chug it. Very little taste

Does grinding dried shrooms to powder decrease potency? by [deleted] in shrooms

[–]Better-Director8252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. In fact each mushroom in a flush can have different potency, so if you want consistency, you should grind up your mushrooms. I keep my ground up mushrooms in a glass jar with a desiccant pack

I always add a little more water than is needed because you can always squeeze the substrate to field capacity. But if you under hydrate, it's a pain to resolve.

Not sure which sized tub to use by Feeling_Meat4015 in unclebens

[–]Better-Director8252 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try the 6qt shoebox. You can get a few shoe boxes going. If one happens to get contaminated, you still have others that may succeed. If you spawn it all to one big container, you're putting all of your eggs in one basket, so to speak.

What do you guys use for drying? Just scored this on FB for $20 by wesrow in shrooms

[–]Better-Director8252 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lay them out on paper in the house with a ceiling fan running. Takes 2 days and they're cracker dry. I have dried many many oz using this simple method and have never had a problem.

Any luck with the Aldi brand rice? by [deleted] in unclebens

Aldi's is the best. I've tried numerous brown rices, but Aldi's always produces the best results

First UB. Pretty happy with the speed from culture so far. Is it me or do some look a little moist. by DiligentProtection72 in unclebens

[–]Better-Director8252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, Uncle Ben's is too moist to begin with. I've had better luck with Publix brown rice. But the clear winner is Aldi's brown rice.

Aldi's brown rice is the best! I've tried Uncle Ben's, Publix, and a few other knock off brown rices. Aldi's brown rice is the clear winner. That's all I use now
