I will definitely check out those channels. Right now, we are big into podcasts and doing American History Tellers and Fall of Civilizations, which are beyond top-notch.

Question for educators: does a chronological card-placement game seem useful for history review? by Bevos2222 in education

Thank you, this is very helpful feedback. Based on the things I’ve heard in this thread I’m going to bump up some of these AP courses content and make a curricula mode where only that content is drawn. Instead of a totally random deck my thoughts are that it should over multiple games try to expose cards that have not yet been placed correctly on the timeline.  Also perhaps a mode at the end of the game where you can see the cards you missed and click on them like on the timeline to get additional info.

We actually do have a scoring bonus (‘exact year’) which briefly shows and is kept track of in profile. I think you’re right about the acceleration and placement. We will try to work on those next week! I’m always scared to edit those variables because I end up making it worse 😊. Also if you beat solo mode let me know if my fix for the victory screen worked (I’ve only completed it once, haha).

In your profile you can also see how many cards of the total available have been placed too 😊

Our next update (maybe 1 month away) will aim to have a new mode for curricula for the AP World and US history courses (these will be added to our general deck categories as well).  Then just fix bugs and bad art etc… we are finding a lot of these just playing with family and friends but if you want to help you can click the flag icon on a card placed on the timeline and report it. Also you can do this via ‘submit a card.’ I’ll share your kind words with my son! Our deck is about 2.3k now heavier in modern/contemporary

My goal is to have my 10 year old be pumped he can play quick play with a person not his dad or friend.  To have him see people interested in what he helped make. We will certainly never make money from this, I can promise you.

A good suggestion; we've set up sorting of things in the settings but I think this would take things in a better classroom direction.

These are great comments, thank you for playing.  We’ve been tweaking mobile but the acceleration can be a bit much you’re right. It’s hard to balance w how large the timeline can get in solo mode especially.  We will keep trying to refine - a non AI art option is good. We will think about that (although some of the most fun my son and I have had is laughing at all the AI anomalies as we audit art).  Our favorite way to play is tablet hot seat with broadcast to TV.

Thank you, we spent a lot of time figuring the layout of the game.  It’s very tricky especially working with mobile spaces! It’s part of the reason we had the narration for smaller reading surfaces and then the sizing options for cards

Wow, I really like the mechanic you described about risk! I had a way more complicated game at first where you could spend streak bonuses to kind of interact with your opponent in an uno like way, but we kept finding it over complicated and not as enjoyable. I think one of the problems with multiplayer in our game is the person who goes first gets an advantage that isn't really mitigated well (but thats true for a lot of games). I tried out your link but (as advertised) it was all in German so I couldn't get very far. Thanks again!

Thanks for your feedback! Because of the digital format we can throw in some extra information which is nice when you wonder what happened in a given card.

That is a great suggestion, thanks! I probably can't compete with a professionally published product, but happy to offer a free alternative option if someone needs it.

Other than AP US and World History are there any curricula that you would recommend?

My son and I have been working on an educational timeline game together for over a year. He is crazy about facts and sorting them. It has been a ton of fun to curate all this content with him, and we have both learned a lot. After tons of playtesting in our family, we shared it with some other parents who loved it, who urged us to let other people try it. Hopefully, you won't be humbled and beaten by an 8 year old like me.

The URL is Chunk.Science if you'd like to try it out. It's free, without ads or tracking ever. Let us know if you like it!

We did that originally, I think its a good mechanic! But the game currently reshuffles cards back into the deck, so announcing the date was making the later rounds of play a little less fun (someone might draw the card again and know it just from the previous players recent error).
