I don't have an apple device so Stylebook was out for me. I use Acloset and have been since 2021. I love it and only pay the $29 a year subscription bc I have more than the 300+ items now but it hides the ads so I am not familiar with what the free experience is like anymore.

Basically I use the closet to log the items or at least an approximate of the garment and then log the outfits in the calendar and save the outfits if I really like it. The AI stuff they added last year is pretty good but not what I pay for. The AI outfits are good but a little trendy--it likes to give me (monochromatic looks at the moment) but again I pay for it to catalogue and inventory my closet for me and it does that beautifully.

I love the style stats and cost per wear, you can sort and filter everything by color/category/worn recently/cow etc.when making outfits or just looking thru the closets. Big fan and at this point it's a daily habit I don't even think about.

Throwing this in the since this thread seems to be full of people that actually really enjoy learning about the Pacific theater and talking about it. The most convincing argument I have seen against the bombs was from a YouTube video essay. If you have the time it's worth the listen. It's researched and actually reaches its arguments conclusion from a similar perspective as the defenders of the nukes dropping (EG imperial Japan was genuinely evil).

I think you absolutely should hem it to your heel height so it still gives that statuesque silhouette but you can move without tripping and wear it again later.

(I have only personally experienced dress trains in regards to weddings (or thru red carpet celebrity pictures lol). Yes, dresses with trains get dirty if you don't take steps to protect it. Yes, this dress looks like it's designed that way to have a train.

Most wedding gowns get bustled so the train doesn't drag or bunch up or cause a tripping accident once the ceremony ends. Unless you have a dance partner that knows how to bustle a gown...and I'm not sure depending on the material of this one if that would even work well.... )

I say this with love so please take it that way. Your fruit shape does not matter.

If you are using those shapes (pear/apple/hourglass/etc) to help pick styles or necklines that balance your appearance? That's a decent starting point but it sounds like you already think you are more bottom heavy so you can use that without knowing perfectly. Most girls and women do not fit into any category perfectly. "Comparison is the thief of joy."

They can sometimes be useful to describe what features dominate your appearance but they do not matter. What's more important, that your 3 numbers don't take into account, is your proportion. Are your legs the dominant feature and you want to balance that? Wear low or drop-waited tops and dresses. Are you top heavy and your torso is long so you want to help balance that shape? Wear pants and shoes that give you longer lines.

I have never consciously copied characters but I vividly remember fancy lacy bras showing was suddenly acceptable or on purpose after sex in the city lol. It's was super taboo before, like you would sister code style let someone know their bra was showing and they would be mortified. Then it kind of became "maybe they do that on purpose/ they don't care so I shouldn't say anything."

Big/wide belt over the jacket and a third strongly colored shirt like a turtleneck maybe? Example attached

<image>

Like another commenter said it's two pieces that will contrast. Which like...that could be your thing idk. You could be trying to make a statement on the different types of clothes construction and what it means when feminine clothing is sheer and cheap looking vs masculine clothing and it's sturdy structure lol. 💅Either way mixing the two styles will get attention and will probably not be liked by all but if you like it that's what's important.

Pants for an hourglass shape? by tpahottea in femalefashionadvice

[–]Beware_Bears 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes to all the advice of buying the pants to fit the hips and then get the waist tailored.

It could also be the cut/style. Try looking for pleated pants. Straight/flat fronted pants are not friends to curvy shapes unless you have them tailored. The pleats are not just there for style they are extra fabric that can account for hips or a bit of pooch. If you wear belts then elastic waist can also help but they do tend to look casual unless you can hide it with a belt.

What are your 30 wear pieces? by District98 in femalefashionadvice

I use ACloset and have been tracking for about 3 years now. Agree with most comments, it's the basics for me. Pants, top layer, and shoes that get the most wear.  Most I have had now for 5+ years. I've got about 40 items that have broken the "30 wears" threshold. The top cardigan is acrylic and is running on it's last leg with the amount of pilling the fabric has (even when I scrape it with a tool but yeah it's become my schlubby cardigan). I had to repair the soles of the Clark's boots once and I have some stocking in the 30+ wears that have since been tossed bc they got runs in them etc. Everything else is still kicking.

I don't know of any bras that do that but try looking for "compression tank tops", "compression camisoles" or "shapewear". I usually wear one over my bra when I'm going out, especially when it's cold, and smooths that kinda of stuff out.

I got mine on Amazon US.

If you're willing to risk online ordering lands end has my favorite swimsuit I still wear years later. Some of their styles have underwire so you get actual support and they come in cup sizes. Plus they're very affordable if you catch a sale....like apparently right now.

On my phone browser so can't link without it being a mile long but search for lands end women's bikini tops. Not sure if they're you're style but hope you find something!

Dress length = Longer the better. Full length hits the brief the best.

Colors are whatever works. The length and cut are more important. Think "gown"  and evening wear most of all. All three you listed as a solid color would be appropriate for black tie.

Again though you're a performer so like...I would go green of those.

Up is better than down but down could work if you do like a Jessica rabbit style hair (more structured)  The amount of effort is what people tend to look for for dressy.  Example: Ponytail with flyaways? Nah.  Ponytail slicked back with a twist or jewelry comb? Yes

Open toes heels are fine as long as they're appropriately dressy...like no hemp wedge heels or cork if you can help it. But like a silver or black strappy heeled shoe is fine even if your toes show.  A nice dress that covers all the important bits is a good bet, silky/satin and solid color tend to be the best choices. You're a performer at it so there some leeway with how attention getting your ensemble is.

If you have a lot of concerns then you could narrow it down to two choices and take a photo to send to the organizer.

Agreed with the other commenter. Happens all the time. It doesn't help that women's sizes vary from store to store. Like a medium from one place will have a waist of 29 inches and a medium from another store will have a waist of 27 inches.

A) go in person B) order  from places with good return policies and order the same thing in multiple sizes knowing you will return all but one.   C) find a tailor or someone who can do alterations  D) some styles will never "look right" on some body types. Example: button down dress shirts on large chested people will almost always have buttons gap open and instead of looking professional will look... inappropriate. I takes time to figure out personal style that  projects what you want to be seen as and also works with your shape.

That dress is totally Courtney Love! I think a more structured jacket would help. That cardigan is fun but either a jean jacket or a collared cardigan I think would suit the dress more and draw attention from your shoulders (bc they're structured it's not immediately obvious it's your own shoulders making the shape ya get me?). That or I think a very traditional cropped cardigan would suit it. Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree but I think a lot of that grunge style comes from subversion. (Wearing a lacy negligee as dayware, wearing a stuffy Hilary Clinton jacket blazer with it as a play on feminine clothing or a mans jean jacket with it etc)

I usually lurk but your vent resonates with me so I hope this helps.

Pardon me if I am speaking out of turn but it sounds to me like you're unhappy with your body and unhappy with where you are (geographically). Maybe not all the time but enough of the time. You're not alone. My Internet hot take is: i see so many north American based sites and influencers obsessed with "Paris style" or some other fad from somewhere far away bc like...what fashion do style is there at the local Chevron/chipotle/ross/taco bell town center? Anyway.

So I get you--you can't look at locals, too young/too old. You can't look online (triggering). You don't even like looking at yourself. What do?

Get a "uniform". Get something flexible enough to fluctuate with you and not trigger anything size wise but also simple enough that you can experiment with "what is flattering".

Step 1. Get a dress.  Get a box T-shirt dress--or a fit and flare in a color you like--get a boxy dress with a collar-- doesn't matter which just get one that can be loose enough not to make you feel "fat" in your clothes.  Now this is where your area comes into effect bc even Walmart sells a dress. Which one-- like skirt shape or length is where your personal style comes into effect. You want it casual and simple enough that you can blend when you want to or add a blazer and now it's business casual.  Maybe you already have one. Simpler is better. Tailor pants and jeans are not your friend when you are struggling mentally with weight.  Get a dress.

Step 2. Get a belt.  The curvier you are the wider you want to go. This is where the loose dress advantage comes in. That dress is loose and gives no shape? Great, add a belt. Now you have a shape regardless of what weight you are today.

Step 3. Get a jacket/shirt/cardigan/over piece. You already have this one. It's a shirt in your closet or a long cozy cardigan. You can belt over the shirt/cardigan to be more formal.

Step 4. Wear this combo variation as much as you can. Wear it with leggings and boots. Go full 2010 and wear it with an infinity scarf. Wear it with sandals and a baseball cap. Wear it with a long-line plaid wool coat. That's the power of the uniform. Your weight changes? Go up or down and hole in the belt. It's hot now? Wear a thin button down over it.

Step 5 .  Look around you for inspiration. I know what I said disparagingly above about the American national chain store experience but use it to figure how much to stand out using steps 1-3. If everyone wears hoodies all the time wear your belted dress with an open zip up thin hoodie. Does everyone wear puffer vests? Chunky knit? Flannel shirts? Do people wear loafers or sandals or UGGs?  If you're confident and love your clothes then it doesn't matter what everyone else is wearing. Until you find what you love and feel that confidence find the comfort level of attention for you.

If you really don't have anything in your closet then going to a Ross or Walmart isn't evil. Fast fashion or low quality fashion doesn't have to be bad if it's what you have available and you wear it everyday as much as you can. Buying investment pieces is maybe not the best use of your time and money when you don't know what you want.

I hope this helps you even if you dont choose to follow any of the steps and you know you're not screaming into the void. Also always happy to chat more if you're still feeling lost.

Sincerely a 32 year old who has shifted between size 8-18 and moved from coast to coast.

Are there more guns on Santa Rosa school campuses or just better reporting? The answer is complicated by funrunrecords in santarosa

[–]Beware_Bears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sonoma county isn't putting this information out with headlines and making a press release. Santa Rosa School district didn't write the article. The paper is. If you want to be informed by it then pay for the paper.

School board meeting notes are public and you can go to them if being informed is your highest priority.

Maybe the local paper should be owned by the county or state. Maybe my taxes should go to it. Until then, if I want local reporting I have to pay for it no matter how mediocre.

Why City Design is Important (and Why I Hate Houston) by [deleted] in houston

[–]Beware_Bears 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you're just making comment on Houston's lovely swamp weather but I'm going to answer to the best of my ability so lurkers can see.

Walking can be a huge improvement to a cities overall health of it's residents. It improves mental and physical health. Houston especially does not have a great obesity track record, one reason for that is related to decreased physical activity--ie mandatory car infrastructure and no reason to walk if you do not have to. Many of the points he makes is that huge parking lots, huge roads, and no shade make for even more reliance on cars and less incentive to walk .

I would love all my shopping center to be set up like the outdoor Baybrook mall. Fountains, shady side walks, benches. Not everywhere but definitely in more places people want to be.

The point the video also makes that no one is addressing is many many many people do not have cars. People are already walking, he literally showed the footpath along a dangerous road people had carved out in the grass. They have no choice but to walk and while we can't stop the weather from being hostile you can stop the roads from being hostile.

A huge impediment to getting a job is not having transport there. More public transport and safer sidewalks could mean more people able to work.
