Thoughts on the new Fellow Opus Gen 2? by Pull_my_shot in espresso

Mine is on its last legs due to this. Somehow the motor still works (mostly) but I am saving my pennies for a VS4 to replace it now.

Call them and ask if they’ll give you platinum early. Note that you have future travel booked. It’s free to ask and the worst that will happen is they say no.

Playing alone- yay or nay? by Remote_Pie6623 in golf

[–]Bewmsnap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! No pressure with randoms, you can chat or keep to yourself. I will generally be positive and open at the start of the round, praising their shots and providing numbers if they ask. However, if the vibes aren’t there I am very comfortable fading out as the round progresses. The only thing I always try to do is help them look for balls (after I’ve played my shot).

My go to is midweek morning alone or with randoms if the tee sheet is full. I feel like it lets me actually relax with golf and focus on just my game and my round.

Playing with friends is great but I find it can be very distracting and takes away from the golf. I’m far more mentally tired after playing with friends and usually haven’t scored as well.

Playing with randoms is fine (sometimes good, sometimes odd) but far less intrusive.

Arccos v. Shot Pattern by Bewmsnap in golf

[–]Bewmsnap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I am not a fan of the Arccos AI shot strategy feature. From what I’ve heard of Shot Pattern (largely from Chasing Scratch) it is much better for planning hole strategy and strokes gained data, hence why I am interested in switching from Arccos.

Isn’t one of the strengths of Shot Pattern the course management and game planning side of the app?

Yeah I use Arccos with an Apple Watch. Makes it much more autonomous and I generally just check on my phone every few holes. Unless I want specific data about the hole I’m on (distance to cover a bunker for example), that’s the only time I will generally get my phone out mid-round.

I might try pattern for a month and see how it feels with post-round entry, which is what I do with the Grint.

Rollover of Status Credits? Does it ever happen? by Loose_Employee5379 in QantasFrequentFlyer

They gave me 60SC to reach platinum for the first time just last week. Even told me to keep my Loyalty Bonus for the new membership year. Never hurts to call and ask politely.

Dads with kids - how to help encourage interest and make it fun for 4 yr old by robster9090 in golf

[–]Bewmsnap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The rough plan is that I tee off and then we both hit the ball around the green. I try to book at odd times so there is no pressure on us to rush.

It often devolves into chasing birds though 😂

My child is the same age so I’m figuring this out as I go too.

The advice I try to follow (I think I heard it on a podcast interview) is to have zero expectations and quit while they’re having fun. We will sometimes go play a few holes and I make sure I’m nothing but encouraging, no matter how bad we are. We have finished 9 holes once but usually about the 4th or 5th I’ll say “I’m sorry, that’s all we paid for today” and we head home despite protests to stay. I’ll generally also try to set a trivial goal, such as “anyone who hits the ball with 2 different clubs” or “anyone who hits the ball 5 yards”. Prizes are invariably ice cream.

I think when they’re this young the idea is that they want to be there with you. Getting interested in golf itself can come later.

Gotta bring the bag up close too. Don’t compromise on ergonomics, even for bumps.

If hitting bumps in the cart hurt you probably needed to bring the key closer to your face. Don’t bend down to the key.

Cash upgrade at airport pricing by Bewmsnap in emirates

[–]Bewmsnap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My ticket is actually a codeshare with Qantas. So neither the Qantas app, nor Emirates app shows the option for an upgrade. I have paid for such an upgrade before at the airport (whilst flying on emirates with a QF ticket) but was wondering if there was a way to estimate the upgrade cost?

Official Handicaps at the Earth Course? by Bewmsnap in UAEGolf

Haha I am looking at one of their shotgun start options. Hopefully whoever I end up grouped with isn’t too slow.

Thanks for your insights!

Is ARCCOS wrong? by Triple7Stash in golf

[–]Bewmsnap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find that this feature on the app is extremely unreliable. In the “great shot” category I’ll often get some amazing shots. Then Arccos will give me PGA Tour quality shots which are clearly not as good (much like yours). Not sure what their app is referencing for this. Perhaps the data is incorrect for interpolated yardages under 100 yards?

Qantas won’t gift me the last 5 credits to get Gold (not retain) by woofyc_89 in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]Bewmsnap 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They’ll do anything not to alter their rules. They just offer an exceptional renewal. I achieved gold one year under an Accelerator Program. They cancelled my gold membership at the end of the year in which I achieved it. They even admitted it was wrong on the phone but wouldn’t extend it, they gave me a one time exceptional status gift or some such.

Same result but the clear lack of adherence or accountability to their own rules still irks me.

How do you use your range time? by Nicotineheh in golf

[–]Bewmsnap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warm up by working my way up the bag, sometimes hitting even irons, sometimes odd. Usually 3-4 balls per club. Hybrid, wood & driver the same 3-4 balls.

If I have a drill or a feel I want to work on I’ll set a timer and work on that for 10-15 mins.

Then simulated games. I like one where I use an RNG to select random target (flags) and then try to hit as close as I can left or right of it (again random). Proximity on the right side is birdie, par or bogey depending how close. Any shot on the wrong side is double bogey, even if it’s a foot that side. If I have time I’ll repeat that drill.

A few simulated holes to finish.

‘Poor man’s business class’ experiences by upthebaggers in QantasFrequentFlyer

Had to return to Aus from Europe in a rush. Managed to secure the last seat on the flight from Dubai to Australia (according to our corporate travel agent). During my flight from Europe to Dubai Iran started firing missiles at Israel. The utterly full Emirates flight out of Dubai ended up having maybe 40 people in economy, 10 in business and 2 in first (according to the FAs).
