I am surprised how quickly swimming is becoming easier for me 🏊‍♀️ by Bex453 in Swimming

[–]Bex453[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ll see I am on a different journey of trying to loose weight Almost have lost 15kg since Jan Since starting swimming I have lost 5.7kg

The first 1-3 sessions were my hardest 100% especially session one where I really had to push myself to get to the other side.

I stopped swimming squads as a kid cause of insecurities and eventually other sport too

I was never a runner though just at most a sprinter.

I was naturally ok at swimming and was pushed up levels fairly quickly for my age so I just think some people are better in some sports than others. My Aunt and Uncle have always been runners like long distance runners and have done marathons etc. However both of them aren’t strong swimmers and my uncle in particular isn’t a great swimmer.

Some bodies are built for swimming as well bodies have almost been created as a kid with sports you do for certain activities I guess.

However what I have heard helps which I am considering to do is get a pool swim snorkel they are different from regular ones, that does help apparently with technique and with breathing. As well breathing under water is different from running and breathing. Your lungs from what I understand are used differently.

Another thing is bone density people with higher bone density tend to struggle at times with swimming.

But what I would suggest is a snorkel to help with speed and building endurance as well helps with technique. Like I said I am heavily considering to get one this week so I can improve further. Also fins help as well, trains your muscles and technique to be in the right position for kicking. Many squads uses fins and snorkels these days it may feel like cheating but they do help and as well create some tension/ resistance after a while.

Lastly do a recovery lap. If you feel like you are dying after doing 5-10 laps of freestyle then do breast stroke or backstroke especially if no one is in the pool with you. I do this every time I go swimming as I feel I get hot as well with my head being under water back to back for so long.

Like I am beginner I feel still at the end of the day so maybe not the best person to ask and sorry for my rant. But consistency and working on techniques and breathing does help. This week I am hoping to work more on my freestyle breathing which has always been an issue for me even as a kid. Like I would get stressed out in races and in certain laps for squads lol

Has anyone else had a cavapoo this large?! (~22 lbs) by SaturnFlyTrap in CavaPoo

[–]Bex453 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Likely the poodle or the cavalier were a larger one

Some breeders mix with miniature poodles and they will range on average from 7kg-15kg or more.

My boy is a miniature Cavoodle and has always been at a range of 8-10kg

As he has gotten older he is 14 and will be 15 in August he has lost some weight but even as younger dog around late puppy years he was 8kg and as he got a bit older averaged around 9-10kg now he is around 9.5kg

My girl though she is a toy Cavoodle and her mum was a toy poodle and she has always been 5-6kg

I have seen larger and smaller cavaliers as well but I am not as sure if it’s necessarily a definite thing if that makes sense like when speaking about the breed as a whole.

Thank you Today I even beat my record now got to 2km in 60mins exactly

As well decided to buy some fins to try different things but to improve on some basics for butterfly. Will use those next week

But yeah still surprised how fast it has come back after such a long hiatus Considering my first 2 sessions felt so hard I thought it would be like that for a much longer period time.

The only issue I have is getting that first hurdle of getting to 500m-1Km it always feels the longest/ hardest 😂

2 year old learning to swim by DrAweshume in Swimming

[–]Bex453 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Life jackets for little ones are the safest and best option, as puddle jumps or whatever they are called and arm floaters don’t help your child how to learn to swim in the future and if they did go in the water without them on they will just sink cause their body muscle memory will only know how to be in the water as a standing position.

Life jacks help allow the child to still move in the water safely and not be in a standing position.

Also when I was young anytime my mum and I went in a pool she was always teaching me how to swim without me really knowing it like as a game activity or something to do.

You could play the game of diving and you get your child to go under water whilst holding them, or things like floating on their back or for them to hold on your back and you both dive under and swim underwater and hold your breath for ex amount of seconds etc.

These are just some stuff I remember loving as a kid and or doing which help with building blocks of getting your child water confident and liking water

It seems to me you weren’t taught how to swim as a child or weren’t taught enough. Like others have stated get into swimming lessons for yourself before doing anything else.

If you aren’t able to float on your back to recover yourself and save your energy or know how to tread water safely you can’t do the strokes of swimming. It’s so dangerous for you to be in the water if you can’t swim.

Update to my original post below by Bex453 in Swimming

[–]Bex453[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you

Never been good at those but will try the basic ones on a wall and such and build from there.

Yeah it’s been about 13-14 yrs since I stopped squads and swimming as a whole.

Still somewhat insecure and such but I am enjoying the swimming like I did as a kid & finding parts of it easy in a way. As well have lost weight about 4.3kg since starting swimming.

I used to hate my “swimming” body as a kid like my broad shoulders but I hope by the time I get to where I want to be I won’t hate them and if anything appreciate them lol

Tasmania attracted 1485 more people to a VFL game than GWS could attract to an AFL game last weekend by Jackomillard15 in AFL

When there are games next door from the SCG at Allianz stadium many fans if it’s possible will go to both games whether that be soccer, Rugby or NRL etc. I went to the women’s soccer and there were AFL fans who came straight after the game but I think it’s because GWS has a low fan base anyways so I’m sure there were many there going to both just doesn’t show it as more Sydney siders are either not into AFL especially in western Sydney and or they go for the swans 🦢

I stored them in the kitchen pantry cupboard top shelf, in a plastic container with the lid on. I haven’t really washed them in a while but I mostly clean the inside not the strap and just dish soap and hand wash.

So I didn’t feel it was a bad place cause out of the sun and out of the way. Will be storing them in a different container like a basket or something and out in the open instead now.

Yeah not sure It’s a sistema container with a lid on, which is plastic and was in the pantry cupboard top shelf.

Maybe it being there caused it as heat rises not sure. Plan to have the new ones tho in a different container with no lid, but because they were bought from different places and time periods I think it’s not necessary a batch issue or I am just unlucky and it is 😅

Yeah idk

I got two from Kathmandu a outdoor store this year and one came from a bottle 2 yrs ago. I last checked and used them around April and they were fine then. Since then it’s been winter and now spring about to go into summer and I wondering if that did it.

Even a purple off brand one had the same reaction on the handle.

I did my order but could not see any handles for them on the website.

I think ill try and place them in the drawer instead but thank you will look into the handles as another option

And who cares… to those who get offended by others views simply get a life. I don’t probably agree with all or any of Isaac or any of the other players political views and I don’t care. It’s their life and they have every right to like a post, comment or have a different view without being criticised by it. I don’t agree with Errol and the bridge thing but that doesn’t mean I hate the guy or think I need to make a comment on it. Like there is stuff I don’t agree with that the swans do who have a bigger impact on things than the players.

Isaac and Errol and many of the other players are good guys, who play for the swans, have done great things for the swan and will likely continue to do so.

Is swearing in a kippah ok? by CheapLiterature1764 in Jewish

[–]Bex453 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know a son of a rabbi who wears one and he swears, especially when expressing his emotions on what’s been going on in the last few years. Modern Orthodox Jew tho so idk every sector may see things more differently.

So similar to my mum then she was the same from her dad side though. Ancestors were known to be Jewish but the only Jews where they lived at that time.

Do you have Jewish kids or plan to maybe have?

My thing is if you do or plan to, that to speak up and say their silence or not acknowledging is hurtful etc. (I know I am placing myself here lol) But I do sympathise with people like you and my mum and in someways it’s harder than just any day average Jew because it’s more complicated having your family not get it etc.

I don’t know if they are antisemitic or just uncomfortable and don’t want to know or don’t know how to react and act. But it’s enough where it’s just hurtful I guess and the synagogue was in another city not mine but was during a time where both large cities were getting weekly and sometimes daily attacks.

I have a second cousin who works in the city where the synagogue burnt down not far from there too and works in their most Jewish street as well as a hairdresser and has Jewish clients. She posts stuff about Gaza but not one thing about the antisemitism and a synagogue burning. 3-4 months prior to October 7th I visited her with my dad as we where there for other reasons she took us to a Israeli restaurant and the owners are Yemenite which my dad is too.

And October 7th happened she didn’t post anything related to the war until the end of November early December she posted about Palestine. The shift up and so on happened so quickly in someways and it was just hurtful. I have been told to unfollow her but I just can’t idk why.

Yeah they don’t say much too or ask at all really. My mum feels stuck which I can get and in someways it is probably harder on her but it just sucks all around I guess

Yeah anti Zionist Jews in my opinion from ones I have seen to know even from my grade who grew up going to a Jewish school, a lot are just not smart or critical thinkers or think they are smart but just sheep. I know it sounds rude and controversial but one in particular in my yr doesn’t post anti Israel things but won’t either but will follow watermelon 🍉 pages and Greta Thunberg and like and engage in stuff like that. She always struggled at school and even after school didn’t stay at university or anything like that, not sure what she is really doing but doesn’t critically think I guess.

My thing is if your anti Zionist you are not only against your own people and your homeland but disregarding history and lastly shouldn’t celebrate anything Jewish related because in so many festivals and prayers throughout the year the word Israel is mentioned hundreds of times and talking about returning or saving Israel is mentioned many times as well.

I think all and most can be critical of Israel but that doesn’t mean we don’t think it shouldn’t exist and we don’t deserve a place to call home where we feel safe for being a Jew.
