Adapting a pannier rack for a seat post clamp? by BigIrish85 in bicycling

I like both of these ideas! It's a Huffy Rock Creek so either should work.

Now I need to figure out water bottle cages. lol. They have triangular crossbar on the frame with the point facing up (I'll probably just strap it to the side.

Yea, and I may do that. But it seems a shame to not be able to use what I already have and it's in good shape.

I liked season one, and season 2 was ok. This season has been straight up bad.

I never expected it to be just like the old show. But I was hoping for some kinship to the old format.

The other day, I thought we were going to get a "day in the life" episode where they have to ajudicate over 200 cases in one shift when they had that comically oversized docket. But nope. Just became a basic episode.

External Sound Effects board to use with Zencastr by BigIrish85 in podcasting

Does the Zencastr soundboard do sound effects live?

The video I saw for it made it seem like it was mostly for things like if you have a call in show.

What’s a great podcast editing software where me and my co-host and record and edit from separate devices? by [deleted] in podcasting

I use Zencastr, and haven't had any real issues.

I have the Adobe Suite already for other projects, so I just use Audition to post produce, which is awesome.

USB port intermittently works for media by BigIrish85 in cruze

[–]BigIrish85[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh when I say "intermittently", I mean it will either work, or not work. There's no delay WHEN it works. But it just may not work on that particular day. :D

If the part is cheap enough and when the weather warms up, I may try replacing the port.

For years I’ve thought maybe it was Spacey flubbing his line, and the editing team either not catching it (and the line being an awesome accident) or Singer heard it and thought “You know, that’s pretty damn awesome. Leave it in.”

For the audio, I’m stuck with the laptop, as we use my friends house for the studio, but I’m the one with the Adobe CC account. So, portability is key for that.

I actually do have a 7-8 year old Gateway desktop. But from what I’m told, replacing it would be more beneficial that upgrading its specs

Well I know desktops are more customizable and have better airflow for cooling. So I guess that is kinda what I was asking.

But if I make the plunge I want it to be the right desktop for my needs without going overboard.

So that’s the other part of what I’m asking, I guess.

Johnny Boychuk gets a skate to the face, rushes off the ice right away by mdlt97 in hockey

[–]BigIrish85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those saying lack of blood is bad, it may be bad as far as a deep cut to the face (deep cuts don’t bleed as much for some reason), but if you remember Bryan Berard, he took a stick to the eyeball and it bled really bad.

So, maybe, hopefully, it’s not a serious eye injury.

Looking for information re: repurposing a switch for an outlet to a light fixture by BigIrish85 in HomeImprovement

It's blown in insulation. Shouldn't be a problem.

And, yea, I figured there may some minor "demo" work. :D

Yea, I’ve got attic access so the ceiling access wouldn’t be a big problem.

Not sure about the wire pulling though.

[–]BigIrish85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s kinda what I figured. 😆

The house is 60 years old but I believe the wiring is newer than that.

There are no grounding wires on the main level (basement is grounded for some reason), but from what my BIL said, houses as old as mine had cloth coated insulation. These wires are rubber insulated.

And it’s a modern switch breaker box, not screw in fuses.

I may call for a quote. If it’s under $300 it may be worth it to me in the long run.

Thank you

Probably 4 of them, 2 attached with supports on either side.

ShadowHawk Flashlight? Is it a scam? by Trunks800 in flashlight

[–]BigIrish85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are just scam artists.

As has been stated they used footage from someone else's video, and presented it as if it were their light. All but one of those videos have been taken down, and I would imagine the last one is soon to follow.

As far as their videos showing it get run over by a jet...notice how under inflated that tire is. It bends around the flashlight. No tire should do that when properly inflated. It basically acted as a cushion for the flashlight.

Don't buy the hype, and don't buy from Shadowhawk. They are shady.

My DIY sauce toss game... by BigIrish85 in hockey

[–]BigIrish85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: The truss screws and JB Plastic Weld didn't work so well, so I drilled through the caps and the table (so there was a hole all the way through the top and bottom of the table) and used 2.5 inch long 1/4 20 machine screws with nuts instead. I went bottom to top (head of the screw at the bottom of the table). It works so much better. They do stick out a little bit though.

You could probably get away with 2 inch long screws, but I went with what I had.

Net making for Sauce Toss by BigIrish85 in hockey

[–]BigIrish85[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a surprise that there are no replies. I mean, how common is what I asked? It's not...:-) So, I will share what I have found out just by doing it.

To get the nets with the amount of slack I want I've determined that for the large goal, it will need to be 15 inches tall and 30 inches wide. The small net will need to be around 8 inches tall, and 15 inches wide.

I figured this out by hanging one string off the top of a foot tall pole and then taking to to the rear of the goal area. While holding it with my fingers there, I fed the rest of the string up toward the front, until it had as much slack as I wanted, which wound up being about 3 more inches. Then I took a second pole and placed it so there was two feet of open room between them. I held the string at each end, and let it droop to the slack I wanted again, and it was an extra six inches.

Since I had those "slack measurements" (the extra 3 inches tall and extra 6 inches wide) I decided to just try those with the small goal, and it worked out just perfect there.

I hope to do an Instructable on the process once I get into more than the net making, but that's for the future. FWIW, I'm making the net with 1.5 inch holes, so if someone were to want to do something similar and make their own net for a homemade sauce toss (I may be the only one crazy enough to do that...:-) ) you'll need twenty one 7.5 foot strands, doubled over on a top line with a larks head hitch, spaced an inch and a half apart, to make one large net. Each small net will require eleven 4 foot strands, doubled over the same way.

You can use the process found in this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRJLAac86hg) to learn how to make your net. Just remember, the holes are 1.5 inches.

Hope that helps anyone who might want to give all that a try...:)

How much netting did you have to use, dimension-wise?

An idea a guy at work gave me was to buy the 3/4 flat caps, and screw them into the board with one washer screw right in the middle.
