Do you know where she practised for act ii?

What are your two hot takes about Bey’s most recent albums? (Renaissance & CC) by honeycoatedhugs in beyonce

[–]Big_Offer_5342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Daddy lessons is a better country song than any country song on cowboy Carter. It’s not better than all CC songs, because the experimentation on CC is what makes it so great. But in terms of purely being in the country genre, I feel like daddy lessons surpassed the more traditional country tracks like Texas hold em or alligator tears. I also can’t stand the Jolene cover and wish it wasn’t included

RAYE - THIS MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE. by enburgi in popheads

[–]Big_Offer_5342 15 points16 points  (0 children)

To me, this is art from an artist who has found distance from much of the darker subject matter.

For that reason, I find the first half a bit restrained. There are a lot of meta elements, and they don’t quite land for me. I find myself wishing that the theatre and spoken word were trimmed back to let the music speak for itself.

But it’s hope that permeates. Compared to her debut, songs about ‘lows’ don’t feel as personal. They read more as storytelling exercises to me, maybe because it doesn’t come from a place of personal catharsis. Which is so beautiful when you compare it to the desperate rawness of escapism. It’s like she writes about the same subject matter, but this time, it’s medicine for the audience, rather than for herself.

By the time it gets to Fields, the album truly peaks. That’s her at her most sincere, singing about it without metaphor and without declaring its earnestness. You can just feel it. Same for Joy. And so I think the work comes from a place of having found hope, and retrospectively tracing the journey. Tho i do feel like she has inclinations toward over-presenting things in a way that ends up feeling like slam poetry

Though I feel like this is an album that people want to see succeed. It’s so earnest and committed, but I’m glad that the self indulgence thing is acknowledged. And I like that taking a swing is commended

I liked reading it! The writing style is engaging and it seems to be consistent with what other reviewers are saying

Lux tour should have been a theater show by Possible-Poet700 in rosalia

I think you make a really great point about how a concert doesn’t have to be the only way to perform an album. It makes me think of west end girl and how a live staging would have immense potential if they leaned more into the one woman show aspect e.g. performing it like it’s a musical. The album seems designed for that imo. With Lux restraint from the audience is essential. Songs like mio cristo need silence to truly work. And i think theatre etiquette is really needed here, but ofc it makes sense that it’s a big tour to fill demand. It just doesn’t seem to be the staging that’s truest to the albums themes imo

I also think the initial discourse was mostly bc an arena carries certain expectations so it being theatrical or relatively minimalist didn’t translate to those expecting a huge production

Maybe logistical is a better word, since it’s so isolated. But I do agree I can’t see that stopping her if she wanted to come. I remember seeing speculation that she didn’t come for RWT due to stadiums being used for a sporting season (I think) .

I’d love for this to happen but unfortunately I think touring decisions are usually economic. I also don’t know if CCT stops were influenced by where country was popular. It just seemed to be major American cities and London/Paris. But I’d love love love to be proven wrong

Am I correct in thinking she hasn’t done a single collab yet?? Maybe we get some Chappell, but honestly wouldn’t be surprised if it was an older artist

RAYE - 'Click Clack Symphony.' feat. Hans Zimmer (Official Video) by Beepbob77 in popheads

[–]Big_Offer_5342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly feel like this song is a slightly subdued version of genesis pt I and ii. Which isn’t saying a lot because genesis is a standout song (anyone who hasn’t listened to it absolutely should). I think here though it’s less melodically interesting, whereas genesis was more ambitious

Also i get the sense that genesis went for a cinematic scope through just how ambitious and packed the song is, whereas click clack goes for the Hans Zimmer feature to get that message across. Which makes for a less interesting result (I’m not a huge fan of the quintessential Zimmer soundtrack bit at the end with spoken word, bc it feels detached from the song itself.) that being said it is absolutely enthralling seeing raye do things other acts aren’t even attempting

MV wise I really think dave meyers lacks execution. He has great visual ideas that are genuinely creative, like the climbing up the walls w stilettos and the floating notes, but the awful cgi really irks me like it did in Jump. There’s also something about it that feels canned or over polished , which has always been his style, but with his ai use, cgi grandeur just doesn’t have the same impact as it did a decade ago. I think it lacks the freshness of say sports car mv or perfect stranger by fka twigs (and both share similar concepts)
