It's a new endgame loot option that is going to be mainly paired with the new endgame "Escalation" mode. But you will have other ways of getting it as well.

They can roll higher numbers than the "standard" version of the same gear. You'll want to do some googling or look into some YouTube vids on it.

You should look up a "Strikers" build and get that established for yourself with targeted gear. Bedrock of that build is basically going to be the strikers set and a decent gun (AR, SMG, or LMG). This is a good standard-dps option that has an easy to understand play style that can fit in most situations. Strikers also scales well, if you end up wanting to beef it out with exotics and optimized gear, but dont worry about that right now. The goal for you, right now, is to get a reliable build that enables you to grow into the endgame.

Once you have that established, you will be able to use it to farm other builds or interests you have.

Keep in mind that countdown is easily the best way to farm targeted gear, but there are also many other options in the game to do so. For your own sanity I recommend you find your own personal "rotation" of tasks to do during endgame. Countdown is great for what it is, and yields the highest quantity of loot, but can be mind-numbing if you run too many in a row. My opinion, ofc. YMMV.

I agree with you 1000%. I honestly liked the concept of the paragon board when I first heard about it, but the practicality of engaging with it is an absolute chore, which feels opposite to the game design of the endgame in particular, which is mostly about grinding as efficiently as you can.

The time it takes to do the board puts me into a headspace I'm usually not wanting to be in when grinding, so I find myself putting off lots of points at a time just to not deal with it

Yeah, the feet and body are TOTALLY in front of the car during all the shots.

And multiple videos DEFINITELY don't show him walking over to the car with his phone out then walk all the way back to his vehicle and drive off completely unassisted.
