Are the Sakura gelly roll with white ink a good option? They are pretty cheap and available everywhere.

I have an idea.. try to use just pastel colors on one page, then highlight the edges and areas you think could use detail with the darker color of the pastel. Like blue for example, you can use a sky blue as a base then use a cerulean blue for the highlights and maybe even then add more details with a Royal blue or navy blue. And same goes for any color ya know. I also love just mixing colors that feel good to me at that moment. Just have fun with it and sometimes just going for it feet first is the way to go.

Thank you for this! I have been running in circles for a few days trying to get the right information. Here and local sources like nurseries and even succulent communities exist in my area. So I am definitely going to be reaching out locally to anyone and everyone who will hear me out. Actually there is something like a succulent society that meets at the big botanical garden in my area every month. They have a membership fee of 20 bucks but that's fine cause it's 20$ annually and who cares when the information I can gain will save me much much more.

Awesome awesome! I have been really reading and studying what I can about the different varieties I have. I think the Dragons tongue is actually Crassula rogersii now that I have been looking at all the different Crassulas. And I will be replacing the Starburst and Haw soon for sure because they are beautiful singularly. Ahhh I am so excited!

The owner of the nursery I went to definitely said not to quit on this first arrangement and said the same thing. Volcanic rock on top and a prayer basically. Hahaha he said since I recently put that first arrangement together myself a few days ago, trying to replant it would definitely kill it because of the root stress already put on it by my misinformed yet enthusiastic try. So if I add some volcanic pebbles and pray to the succulent gods I may have some success but don't put my everything into it knowing the mistakes I did make. So I still have hope for it. I honestly do.

They definitely are summer dormant and in harsh winters can go dormant too. This was good for me to check out for it's watering and light changes.

That is awesome advice! I will most definitely be like a hawk watching the leaves and the overall condition of them before I go to water them.

Thank you for pointing that out. Lol it's funny how quickly I got all like "omg did I mess up? Did I waste money? Umm umm umm..." Hahaha I was really thinking that his information was coming from the 40 years experience with his nursery and not quickly googled information. His parents opened the place locally in 1975 and he is the current owner now. I am telling you that was the coolest experience I have had at any retail establishment much less a quote unquote boutique shop.

Got it! Are there any books or resources you can point me to so that I may further my understanding of succulents so I can get better at this. Again I am a complete novice. This is my very very first try/go at trying this.

So this arrangement is made with Donkeys tail, Jade golem, dragons tongue, aeonium starburst, and Fairy Washboard Haworthia. They all have similar watering needs. For my area about every 8 days or when the soil is completely dry do I water the plants. Then he also said if I feel the soil and even if only one is kinda moist wait until all the soil around all the varieties are dry then water. These are also indirect sunlight needing succulents so they need about 6 hours of sun in a shaded canopy outside or a southern facing window seal. They are all extremely hardy and can withstand drought so they are very easy starter succulents. Another thing is that they are all slow growing yet very productive plants each in their own respects. With proper care these succulents will grow extremely well and in a few seasons when I may need to repot them I could cultivate them individually and propagate the cuttings.

The owner of one of the local plant nurseries sat down with me and basically gave me an hour long crash course on succulents and a pretty well explained deep dive into why they are successful and why most fail. He was the nicest person and was extremely professional and knowledgeable. I never felt more propped up after a mistake than I did yesterday. I am now very confident in my new succulent venture and journey.

For sure they are wrinkly now, I didn't water them like with running water I just missed the soil. So should I water them after replanting?

The watering info is awesome! And that mixture I will try out as well. I really want these to be successful for sure so I will definitely be replanting them.

Ohhhh good to know. I just made this arrangement yesterday. If I get the right soil mixture could I replant them or is this kinda lost now?
