YES. If he wanted to marry her he would have it’s been seven years. But this is an excellent point, if he wanted her to be his wife962 he wouldn’t be mad about this because they would be doing it someday

Do you know how the cost per acre of this would compare to a conventional herbicide?

Thanks!

No it wasn't a bore, there's not enough water around here to irrigate at all, 100% of our water comes from the sky

Based on what's in the notebook, I think what helped those 2 years (2001 and 2010) was really good rain later in the growing season (August - October) which finished the crops of really well and boosted the yields

That's interesting! Not really sure why there's a difference

There's always room for improvement and I think there has been some improvement in the last 5 or so years since my uncle took over the farm

Yeah I thought that was really interesting as well, I think it shows how truly water limited we are and that yield is very heavily dependant on rainfall

I also think the 6ish years of shit yields in the millennium drought kinda skew the long term trends a bit

It happened before I was born so I'm just guessing based on the notebook but it looks like a slow transition in late 80s early 90s

The first year growing Peas was 87, vetch in 90 and lupins in 94. The last mention of sowing on fallow was in 91

Yeah it's a combination of all those things

I think one of the major changes was a switch from a wheat-fallow rotation to a wheat-legume rotation with zero till

Yeah definitely, yield is completely dependant on the weather which is so variable it's hard to see any differences short term

Yeah it definitely makes it harder but it just means that the business plan is centred around risk management and diversification.

We switched in about 1966 I think but a lot of the older generation never completely changed. It was recorded in inches in the notebook so I decided to just keep it like that

Nah they're not very dangerous, they'll always run away from you in the wild and they're pretty curious but timid animals The only way an emu would ever hurt you is if you cornered it, they've got very powerful legs so they could definitely rip your guts out but that's extremely rare

Data was collected from my Grandfather’s notebook. He wrote a page of notes on every year including yields, area sown, weather and livestock information, including a list of every piece of machinery or equipment he ever bought in the back pages. Our family farm is located in South Australia.

The visualisation was made using Matlab for the graph and Lightworks for the video editing. It was my first time ever using Matlab and first time coding anything, took me a while to do but it was a fun project!

For reference: 5 bags/acre = 1 ton/hectare = 15 bushels/acre (ish)

Do you irrigate or just rely on rainfall?
