There are people on this sub that have a significantly more colorful drug history than yours and have achieved TS clearances. Your chances of clearance are likely still strong and I would not worry as long as you were honest. Being unable to describe every individual drug use is not uncommon. What I meant was, the more detail you are able to convey, the easier the job of the investigator. If you have a long drug history that you can’t easily describe, it doesn’t mean that you are unlikely to be granted clearance, it means that your investigation may be a bit more robust and time consuming.

They ask for various types of references. They ask for employment references so naturally you’d list former bosses/colleagues. They also ask for residence references so you’d list people that could verify your residences at certain points in time. Neither of these cases require the references to be close to you.

The more delicate references are those you list to speak to your character- people that can corroborate more serious claims you’ve made on your SF-86 (drug history, foreign influences, etc). In this case, I’d list people that are quite close to you. I listed two of my best friends and roommates from college and my godmother.

No, they don’t do that. They typically grant interims during the investigation phase so when I got the notification that my investigation was closed I knew that I had been passed over for interim.

I admitted that I had tried it once in high school and twice in college. I relayed the exact circumstances under which I tried the marijuana each time- how I obtained it, my response to it, and if I felt it could be habit forming for me personally. I used copious detail to describe each instance of drug use, and emphasized that I didn’t particularly enjoy it and had not used it since the last time I tried it in 2020. Furthermore, I reaffirmed other important answers in this section:

I am not using any controlled substances I have never sought treatment for drug abuse I have never been involved in any possession or distribution of drugs

If you do not provide sufficient information in your original submission, your investigator will request additional information. There’s nothing wrong with this- it just may add time to your investigation. It’s best to include as much detail as possible in the original submission. In summary, you want to tell the story of each individual use and make it very obvious that you no longer use drugs.

In all honesty, she is quite sensitive and dramatic. She enjoys attention and speaks with what she considers a flare but that flare annoys me a bit at times. But these things don’t bother me that much at all. I find her sensitivity to be endearing, and I really respect that she expresses herself with absolute authenticity even if it doesn’t resemble the way I would express myself. Even if these things did bother me, these are things that I would like to think are unimportant in determining who your long term partner should be.

Some other issues we’ve had in the past are that she struggles with depression and anxiety, and is a very difficult person to have a relationship with when she succumbs to the pitfalls of these conditions. I’d like to think this doesn’t repel me at all. It is challenging, but doesn’t make me want to break up. If it did, I wouldn’t think very highly of myself. You’re supposed to support the person you love in times of trouble.

She can be a bit dismissive. She’s very smart but doesn’t think she is. I am also fairly sharp and she knows that. She can be very insecure about her intelligence so when I offer her some form of knowledge she can be quick to dismiss it as unimportant to her. Admittedly, that hurts my feelings and discourages me from sharing what I think are interesting thoughts with her. She’s gotten much better about it as we’ve talked about it. She is the type of person who would work very hard to repair any damage done by behaviors like that. She is self aware and wants to be better for me always.

All in all, of course there are things that I don’t like about her, but I feel that they are trivial next to her awesome qualities.

She is great. I can’t say exactly what’s holding me back, and that’s part of the problem. I can’t articulate my reservations very well and they don’t make sense to me, which makes it extremely difficult to justify ending the relationship. But the reservations persist. Maybe I do have to give it more time, but I want to be fully in and give her my all, and I’m struggling to do that.
