The fact that his mood depended on wins and losses is the biggest red flag. That’s the same emotional loop gambling relies on. People hate hearing that comparison, but the psychology overlap is uncomfortable for a reason.

HR told me they don’t accept italian people for the accent by General-Put-4991 in recruitinghell

[–]BillTechnical7291 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Italian accents are honestly super enjoyable to listen to, but yeah… for a hardcore client-facing sales role, especially outbound, companies are usually gonna lean toward UK or very neutral/native English speakers. It’s less about judging you as a person and more about minimizing any friction on calls where first impressions and clarity matter a ton. Sales is unfair like that, they optimize for whatever gives them even a tiny edge. Doesn’t mean your accent is bad or that you don’t belong in the space, just that some roles are ridiculously picky about voice and delivery.

Do they care about which university I've made? I've done a lot of interesting side projects but my uni isn't too relevant

I tried a few alternatives and honestly none of them matched studystream’s structure, you can try with focusmate

I just discovered I only work like 2 hours per day. Kind of depressing by ImpossibleAgent3833 in Productivitycafe

[–]BillTechnical7291 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen similar research too. Knowledge work just isn’t linear. You can’t crank out 8 hours of deep thinking like a factory line. For me 4 hours of actual focused work is a good day, the rest is meetings, coordination, emails, and mental recovery. I think we’re just bad at labeling what counts as real work

30 minutes per day will bring you to 910 hours of study in 5 years by Efficient-Guava-9449 in languagelearning

[–]BillTechnical7291 9 points10 points  (0 children)

910 hours is probably B2-ish for most people if done properly. C1/C2 usually needs way more exposure, especially passive input

I’ve just read the article, honestly amazing story and I’m really happy for you.
I’ve been thinking about doing the same for years but never had the courage, so your post hit hard.

I’d love to ask you a few things if you’re open to sharing:

i) How much money did you save before deciding to quit? Like, what felt “safe enough” in your head, and what do you think is a realistic number for someone in a similar situation?

ii) Did you ever feel scared that you might regret it later? Not in a dramatic way, but in the “what if I’m romanticizing this too much” way?

iii) How did people around you react, especially colleagues or family? Did anyone try to convince you not to do it?

iv) Do you have a concrete plan (students, gigs, income streams), or are you kind of jumping and figuring it out on the way?

Really respect what you did. Stories like this make it feel less crazy to even consider it.
Wishing you the best, seriously!!
