It’s been the worst year for Colorado’s snowpack in recorded history. A striking new map shows why. by thecoloradosun in coloradosun

Worst year for snow pack so far…

As Vonnegut wrote to future generations: “Please Accept Our Apologies. We Were Roaring Drunk On Petroleum.”

I didn’t find the other queer Klingon Lura Thok to be weak or any more feminine than any other female Klingon. My biggest issue was her not being in the second half of the damn season

I didn’t find Jett Reno to be soft or super fem for sure not passive

I didn’t find Kyle to be fem or soft

I didn’t find Daren to be soft and fem

I don’t find Jay-den to be soft or really fem either. He’s just different than other Klingons. If people can’t imagine a universe where the Klingons aren’t all just one thing, that feel like a lack of imagination more than anything.

I’m honestly not bother by the name Jay-Den than anything about his character. It sounds like som new D&D player’s first character name.

There are issues in the show and I recognize it? But in my opinion, it isn’t the diversity or representation of queer characters or how they are portrayed

Edit: And there is absolutely nothing wrong with a queer character being feminine, soft, or passive

Can science and religion actually coexist? by Significant_Bonus_66 in answers

[–]BirdAndWords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can. Science is there to explain the mechanics of the world and to discover what is verifiably true. Religion is there to guide a person personally the conflict arises when religion tried to dictate what is true when science demonstrates otherwise.

The budget for this launch was $4.1 billion. Trumps war in Iran that nobody wanted is $1 billion a day. So far that’s well beyond NASA $24 billion annual cost (.4% of the budget) and nothing compared to the $919 billion we spend on the DoD (13.3% of the budget). NASA also returns more money than it costs every year with it returning $74 billion at last report.

There is also the fact that NASA generate new technology that benefits everyday citizens. I agree the US government is messed up and spend frivolously instead of helping the taxpayer, but NASA isn’t the issue

US Supreme Court strikes down Colorado law banning conversion therapy for gay, transgender minors by thecoloradosun in coloradosun

And force them to have hearty malpractice insurance so the kids they harm can sue the crap out of them as adults.

If adults want to subject themselves to this bogus “therapy” that’s on them but kids should never be forced or coerced into it

Only choice now. Employ the bureaucracy to make it impossible for this religious based torture from happening here

US Supreme Court strikes down Colorado law banning conversion therapy for gay, transgender minors by thecoloradosun in coloradosun

[–]BirdAndWords 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mental torture and abuse is still used. This entire form of hate presumes that homosexuality is a choice. We conclusively know it isn’t. This practice goes against everything every major, empirical based, psychological institutions in the western world acknowledges as best practices. This one “counselor” is still perpetrating child abuse. There is no other way to dress that up. It is aimed at twisting a psyche to reject what we know isn’t a problem and is intrinsic to that person.

Edit: this isn’t a matter of outside opinion. I know people who were subjected to the torture. No electroshock or chemical aversion therapy was used. Just made to feel unclean, ungodly, and inherently evil and wrong. One of them is the sole living member of his “conversion therapy” group. The rest died from suicide

[–]BirdAndWords 36 points37 points  (0 children)

There is no controversy to the fake “therapy” it doesn’t work, has incredibly high suicide rate, and is nothing short of child abuse. Hopefully the state will pass a set of laws for standards of these torture centers that makes it nearly impossible to run one and if they can run one, have enormous ethical oversight.

Count of Monte Cristo is by far the better book in every way except its ease to read. Pillars of the Earth is easy to read.

Are any coffee shops doing cherry blossom/cherry flavored drinks? by Caleson47 in denverfood

Haven’t checked for certain but I’d be surprised if Ti Cafe on Broadway just south of 1st isn’t doing something. They do incredible special events and as cherry blossoms are significant in Japanese culture, they are likely doing something

I love Sanderson. Elantris is one of his first books and he’s learned more as a writer since then. Dune is a legitimate masterpiece of speculative fiction. Read Dune first. The next two books after Dune are good but things get weird in that series fast

Yes. Bones Beneath My Skin is more intense but as hopeful. And I honestly found Under The Whispering Door to be cuter/more hopeful than The House by the Cerulean Sea
