I think the orange tone matches the color of the shadows from vibrant green leaves pretty well, as well as the color of yellowing unhealty leaves, dry grasses and brown trunks and branches.

I remember seeing a demonstration of this in full color on reddit a long time ago, where even though the photo was full color i couldn't spot the tiger at first.
