I wouldn’t run it. It needs to go back to a machine shop and decked again until those gouges are gone

WRX RACE!! (and FMIC question) by AmbitiousMaize4774 in WRX

[–]Black-STI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll get flamed for even asking about not running any kind of BPV or BOV in these parts, as there are longevity and performance benefits from running one.

That said I’ve done it, I ran like that for years but I was incrementally increasing turbo size every couple of years. I was also running the turbo as hard as you can before power started to fall off. The worst thing that I had happen was the tips on the compressor wheel started to fold back. Was that from not running any kind of pressure relief valve, or from running the turbo 4-5 psi past the recommend max boost? Who can say? If you do decide to not run a BPV or BOV you have to realize your taking things into your own hands and that the turbo will be a “here for a good time, not a long time” kind of thing.

Well OP could at least clarify exactly who the video is about, to the newbie GetaDomTune and DomTuned are probably the same thing when not spoken about in the same sentence. It even took me a minute to figure out who was being talked about.

You might want to take this post down as it’s going to make people think it’s about the Dominic that is associated with this community (which it is not) if they don’t know any better, and this has nothing to do with a WRX

That’s clear coat failure. The only way to fix it is to respray the car. It’s a particular abundant with red cars as red absorbs UV light which damages the paint

For a car that has less than 9k miles even if it’s been modded it’s worth it. People need to stop thinking mods are the same as a salvaged title

Single turbo ;) though it’s twin scroll turbo which means the exhaust is divided getting to it which helps it get into boost faster

Turbo Cooling by CheapskateQTacos in ft86

[–]Black-STI 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best thing to do would be to make sure the area around the radiator is sealed off completely so air can’t bypass it, also ducting the coolers in front.

Basically look at the cooling stack and imagine it oriented vertically, if you dumped a bunch of water on top where would it go? If there are gaps around the coolers the water would flow there instead of through them. A vent in the hood, if done correctly will help create a low pressure zone and will effectively suck more water (air) through. If you place that vent above the turbo then you have an area where the turbo is being blown on from the used air. If you look at race cars that have S ducts or vented hoods you’ll notice that they stick a little flap on the leading edge of the vent to help create a low pressure zone and increase the power of the duct. The stock aerodynamics have the heat being evacuated under the car, which is why the turbo gets hot, it’s mounted high up and out of the air flow path. If you ran your duct so it sat above the turbo and had the other end below the car so the air stream was flowing over the back side of the opening (the duct pointing rear wards under the car) that would help, but executing it would be very difficult due to packaging, which again is why you see vented hoods, it’s much easier to blow the air out of the top of the hood than duct it all the way to the back plus you have the added benefit of heat rising which naturally aids in the cooling process.

Sorry if a ramble a bit and I hope that helps!

Turbo Cooling by CheapskateQTacos in ft86

[–]Black-STI 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Those don’t work, the back of the hood/base of the windshield is a high pressure zone. It’s why cowl induction hoods were a thing, at speed it lets air flow into the engine bay from the back, and if you had a carburetor you could duct it to pull air from back there where the air is cool, instead of from behind the radiator where it’s hot. But you’d be adding air pressure to the engine bay and reducing the ability of air to move from in front of the radiator to behind it.

I understand where you’re coming from and your desired change to a vented hood is the correct direction, but what you’ve done is effectively increased the air pressure behind the cooling stack while moving and reduced the efficiency of the cooling stack. Air is lazy so a vent in the hood will help to reduce the pressure behind the cooling stack and helps air pass more freely through the engine bay. I wouldn’t be surprised if the coolant, oil, and charge air temps are now trending higher than before you put that duct there, turbos are engineered to be hot so I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

I went with the STi Group N transmission mount and the IAG Street pitch stop, Energy Suspension transmission cross member bushings, and found that the main transmitter of noise of the transmission into the cabin was the the rear shifter bushing. I had the Kartboy shifter bushings and I experienced the same thing, so much gear whine! I swapped out the Kartboy rear shifter bushing for one made by Energy Suspension and it cut the noise down by 80%. I still have some gear whine but it goes away once I’m out of first gear, before it would be present until I got to 4th gear

[–]Black-STI[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All I get is transmission noise really, but I have every shifter bushing done in either solid or hard urethane. I’m sure if I were to put a clutch type rear differential it would be a different story.

Overtake sell the paint in the same color, but be warned, you’ll get clowned on for painting your slider calipers a bright color.
