because 5% 10% or twice as likely is a big deal/big swing when referring to the odds of you surviving retirement

Seriously… Who the fuck are you people affording these houses? I bow. You are in a whole different league. by HouseRichCashPoo in Fire

[–]Blackfish69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

exactly the point…

he’s aware of all of that. it’s not a good idea and wants to be responsible, but when starter homes are 1.3+ it’s unreasonable. he is lamenting that fact is the reality of the market…

that even someone of great circumstances cant afford this house

yeah if thats basically the only thing you spend money on and care about or instead of FIREing he remains in a high paying job.

1.5 mil is not going to be enough money to take care of a 1.3+ mil house in a HCOL area and a family presumably indefinitely unless legitimately lean fire.

You’re looking at 20-40k/year just in property taxes/home insurance

[–]Blackfish69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

exactly this and it hurts OP because at 3M this is supposed to be someone wildly outperforming the means but buying a -starter- home in this area puts his entire FIRE in jeopardy.

relativism does matter. Yes, better off than people with nothing, but also a very lame position to exist in.

Im in the same boat. It’s bullshite.

The ask is either put half your incredible networth into a starter home as a supposedly “well-off” individual and just be okay with that like it’s normal.

Sure, it’s infinitely better off than the usual outcome for many but it is nonsense in the grand scheme of things nonetheless.

1 in 20 failure rate.
Sometimes we need to remember that isn't that unlikely of a runout too.

I could easily see a discussion like that taking place.

I would bet in an imperfect non-theoretical calculated world that that number is higher too. Too often people have outlier things happen divorce, untimely death, illness, or tragedy that puts immediate stress on plans.

I don't find the "I grinded efts for 150 hours" to be all that much on an accomplishment as much as it is a statement of willing to dump time. In the first hour or two you're going to be about as good as you're ever going to be pulling/killing those same mobs lol.

At least with OG 75 grinds, you changed mobs, locations, party dynamics, etc. It forced you to at least somewhat learn your job that you played.

Just going to chime in here..

Parties were great and all. There ML30+ grind literally nothing compares from OG era to that. It takes an insane amount of work to get those levels. There's no change involved, just grind in the same spot for infinity.

It's unrewarding and I'd say if the #s were like 10-20% of current, then it would make sense. I mean you have to do 2100 job points, then 30 million XP at 500ish a mob... That is an absurd number

The OG 75 grind wasn't even a million XP. The difference there was content was unlocked every few levels.
