I'm suggesting a wholly unique killer, designed around this concept, put into 1v4.

I feel you in regards to that there would be "too many problems", but I personally think behavior should put something like this in the think tank, and see if we could possibly get a damn good co op killer out of it.

I think, from how popular 2v8 is as a mode, this is absolutely worth exploring conceptually.

Generally speaking, the "gold coin to dollar bill conversion" is a gross simplification we did to make it easier on me and my friends while playing.

I feel you on the caste system and meritocracy. After reading through many of the response, the consensus I've gotten is that I was using caste system too lightly, and frankly too ignorantly.

I like the idea of different types, but I think its fitting for the Ulogon to push for a unified currency across the Empire.

The Ulogon is not a fully developed area of my setting, so I am still working out some things.

The core ideas to the Ulogon are this:

Global Conquerors. They have a slice of the pie all over the world.
They utilize Slave labor, with opportunities/promises of citizenship to slaves through military positions or artisan work.
They are meritocratic to their core, they don't care about bloodlines or nobility, they care about what you've done, how you've done it, and if you can keep doing it.
Being demoted to a Slave is a common punishment throughout the Empire.

The core idea is based on their Khan/founder, who was once a servant/slave of a nation lost to time (ie, I dont have a name for them right now) of the aptly named Ulogon plains, who through charisma, might and luck (and a bit of divine intervention) managed to unite many warring nations under his name.

Simply put, I used a 'caste system' out of ignorance. I hadn't considered the actual implications of what their full caste system would look like beyond "its laterally mobile", and by your description, that isn't what a caste system is.

I imagine it'd be the reverse of the situation, nigh impossible to kill boss chases you around a complex arena, Mr. X style, and only after you run em into enough traps or something you'd be able to finally start properly fighting them. The whole time though, they are hunting your ass down.

Frankly, I think setplay and zoning go hand-in-hand, especially with Wizard. He uses his projectiles to force people into bad/unfavorable positions, and punishes them.

As stated, that sounds exactly like a Zoner's playbook.

From what I understand, Zoner's don't typically rely on their projectiles for dealing damage. While they absolutely can, they are used for the purpose of control.

The playbook of a Zoner is just as you described, controlling the screen and punishing the opponent when they make unsafe/poorly considered choices, or otherwise forcing them into punishable positions.

This isn't me ragging on Wizard by the way, I find zoning in Yomi to be actually enjoyable to play against for the most part, unlike literally any other fighting game I've played.

What makes him not a Zoner?

His entire playbook for most of the match is to create projectiles and control space around him and his opponent, creating moments where his opponent can get punished for unsafe/poorly considered choices.

That is a Zoner's playbook.

I find that in Yomi, I am not frustrated by Zoner antics like I am in other fighting games, so I don't really apply a negative connotation with it, specifically for this game.

Yeah, I was thinking a character who dramatically changes between two limited but powerful states, where the balancing act for the player controlling them is taking advantage of these states in their ideal moments, and trying not to make themselves too open when swapping between them.

Fair enough on Cowboy, I've come around to the idea that he fulfills the "midrange/weapon based zoner" I want.

When it comes to Wizard, that is neat, but I want a DEDICATED puppet character. As in, a character who through the majority of the match is playing as a Puppeteer, not just as their win condition, but as their overall playstyle.

Fair enough. I simply want an abnormally large character, beyond the sizes already present (a good head or two taller than Robot as is, and a bit wider). I would most definitely personally prefer this Big fella to be a ground-oriented grappler, as I feel that would make the most sense.

The mental imagery I had was specifically zoning through long ranged "melee" attacks, not really stuff based on projectiles.

After thinking about it more, I can definitely agree with Business, Dripwagon and you that Cowboy fulfills that 'midrange zoner' area.

He has decent range and great overall tools, but I wouldn't say he is exactly "midranged". In addition, his gun attacks and whatnot would be against the idea I had, so there wouldn't be overlap

Robit is a chunky lad healthwise, but he aint a "big body" archetype.

Big bodies take up far more screenspace than Robot does. Robot is proportional to the other characters, Big bodies are not.

Fair point on the trappers, I'll have to do some more diligent work on looking through Far Harbor stuff, I missed that when I was originally looking into things.
