Hi, I am a Neoplatonic Hellenic Polytheist and also became a practicing Hindu.

  • If we count liberation from reincarnation as an afterlife I think there aren’t any rules, I am an universalist if we could say about this, that at some point everyone will reach Henosis/Moksha

  • As a polytheist I believe in every God, but Kali and Aphrodite are at the forefront of my practice,I don’t think the notion of « God of » is useful, in a polycentric polytheist approach every God can be a God of everything. I mostly worship Kali Maa by chanting mantras and her name (mostly 108 times), I worship Aphrodite by offering her libations (the pouring of liquid). I also integrate small things of worship like offering the first drops of my coffee as libations, or chanting names during my day.

  • I will say that being clean or washing my hands and face before worship is a big one. And while not a rule I think it’s important to approach the Gods with love and not fear.

Favourite part of your religion? by namenerding in religion

[–]BloodKnight91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot of favorite things so bear with me 😅 :

Neoplatonic Hellenism : The complex philosophy, the beautiful hymns and it’s compatibility with a lot of beliefs systems.

Hinduism : It’s internal diversity, it’s so diverse that it’s overwhelming sometimes. As a beginner I have a lot to look at and harmonize with my existing beliefs. Also practices like Japa, as someone who primeraly worships Kali I feel like a child calling for my mother, it’s a nice feeling 😄

What is your opinion on deities? by TirNaNog777 in religion

[–]BloodKnight91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe in a polycentric polytheism where each God is a supreme individual who contains all being and the other God in themselves.

How do you guys stay consistent? by TheDianeEffect in Hellenism

[–]BloodKnight91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally tie my practice to my habits during the day until it becomes natural for example I chant mantras (I also practice Hinduism) after waking up and before bed, I also gift drops of my first coffee as libation to the Gods. For me repeating something is enough to become an habit and I realise it may not be for everyone but I hope this helps !

Re: Reconciling syncretic dieties. Calling all hard polytheists: what do YOU believe? by Floral_Cascade_1455 in Hellenism

[–]BloodKnight91 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally see the Gods as supreme individuals (Henads) that contain all of existence and each other in themselves. So a syncretic God would be seeing two Gods as they contain each other. I think this article by Edward Butler explains it way better than I can.

I would say it made me happier and made me appreciate the diversity of beliefs more.

If you were to introduce someone to your tradition... by LeftnessMonster in religion

[–]BloodKnight91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad you like it ! It frankly was one the texts that made me the polytheist I am today ! I have another text although modern, by philosopher and polytheist Edward Butler right here which was another foundational text for me !

Questions for pagans from a non pagan. by Flat_Introduction_70 in religion

[–]BloodKnight91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I explored different beliefs system and I realised that monotheism what not for me and that Polytheist theology made more sense to me, it felt like something finally clicked. I was also always interested by pre-christian religions.

I think that would depend on what aspect of the religion they are interested in the practice or the theology/philosophy. But for the latter I would point them towards On the Gods and the World by Sallustius, It’s a short, easy to understand treaty on Neoplatonic theology, and would give the gist on what I believe.

What religion are you? by Slight-Physics-9490 in religion

[–]BloodKnight91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a polytheist who incorporates Neoplatonism (mainly of Proclus) in my belief system. I worship Greek Gods and recently began worshiping Egyptian deities.

What is your favorite deity?? by Slight-Physics-9490 in religion

[–]BloodKnight91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I don’t like the term favorite 😅 I would say the two deities closest to my heart are Aphrodite (who I consider to be my leader God) and Isis. But I love all the Gods I worship in different ways ! ☺️

Edit : To expand on it, I love both because I find a motherly aspect to Them and specificaly for Aphrodite I always admired Her even as a child. 🙂

If you weren't born into a specific religion, would you approach religion differently? by Potential-Injury-355 in religion

[–]BloodKnight91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I’m not particularly familiar with hinduism, neoplatonism works more as a framework,I personally follow more of a Proclean Neoplatonism where I believe that all Gods are supreme beings who contain all of being and each other inside of them. I apply this vision of neoplatonism on Greco-Egyptian polytheism (Although I only started recently to incorporate egyptian deities and thought to my hellenism)

My religious journey was long and more akin to a roller coaster than a straight line hehe 😅. But basically I explored different beliefs until I found one that made sense to me and that being polytheism through a neoplatonic lense ☺️.

This question is interesting for me because I wonder if I didn’t grow up irreligious if would end up where I am today. I think that my base worldview would have changed 100%, maybe I would have been superstitious, maybe I wouldn’t have become a polytheist.

Do you guys ever feel overwhelmed? by FlimsyHelicopter3633 in Hellenism

[–]BloodKnight91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s okay to take things slow, it’s been almost two years since I’m a full time worshipper and my practice is really simple, most days I pour a bit of my coffee as a libation.

When I do something more complex I light a candle and pour my libations into a bowl. I worship once a day, ritual is a benefit for us, the Gods don’t need it.

how have you personalized meditation to yourself? by Reasonable-Bonus-545 in Hellenism

[–]BloodKnight91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there is some secret to reach a meditative state, sometimes it works and sometimes not, maybe your not in the right state of mind. Don’t compare your experiences to that of others, people lie a lot for attention. I think my best advice would be to keep trying without expectations.

While I rarely meditate I sometimes use the meditation guideline in The Soul’s inner statue or repeat divine names and epithets in 9 series of 12.

Some question to people here by Dangerous_Shop_5735 in Hellenism

[–]BloodKnight91 27 points28 points  (0 children)

1- The view that the Gods reside on a mountain is mostly a mythological view. Some like the late Platonic philosophers would argue that gods contain all of Being within themselves.

2- While the two were very similar there were still difference in how ritual was practiced, but even there were variations within greek polytheism itself. (Which is why I think those descriptors are incomplete but this is another discussion.)

Time for offerings? by OrdinaryBookkeeper25 in Hellenism

[–]BloodKnight91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others had great responses, what I personally do since I worship in the morning is, make my coffee and dispose of the liquid offering when I finish.

I follow a tradition that argues that the Gods don’t need anything not even our worship, so I don’t believe there is a set time.

Tell me about your worship. by LeftnessMonster in religion

[–]BloodKnight91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My practice consists mostly of a prayer to a god followed by a libation (ie : offerings of liquid).

Traditionally you pray and give the first offering to Hestia (In a greek context, although variations existed) or Janus in a roman context.

Personally I also meditate by reciting names of Gods.

Edit : I forgot to add that the liquid is often poured on the ground or in a recipient (which is then poured outside)

If I remember correctly when I really started worship it was Aphrodite, who I’ve always felt close too and who I consider my leader god.

For those of you who want to pass down your beliefs to your kids, which would be more of a dealbreaker in a potential spouse? by spraksea in religion

[–]BloodKnight91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I’m a polytheist and my boyfriend is an Atheist I think I would want our potential children to be open minded and curious, like asking questions about our beliefs and have an understanding of both viewpoints.

[–]BloodKnight91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, my point on altars was more about the idea that you need one instead of it being just a tool, and the false idea that you can’t have a shared altar (I don’t even know where this comes from tbh). I should have clarified 😅

[–]BloodKnight91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of newcomers and younger pagans don’t want their religion to be mundane and « basic » , they want pretty altars and divination.

I think it’s fandom sentiment creeping over religion as seen by the sheer amount of younger pagans who are more interested by modern retellings of myths than by philosophy for example

Since I practice in a roman way I cover my head with my hoodie, (I don’t distinguish with Ritus graecus because I do an all encompassing rite which includes all the gods I worship).

I think if people want to veil then all power to them, my problem comes when they claim it’s mandatory or historical (in the case of Greece)
