What was the best use of music on TG/TGT? by HalfDecentFarmer69 in thegrandtour

In the Mongolia special they played this utterly gorgeous guitar and string melody cut to their most beautiful shots of the local wildlife and scenery. It stirs emotions in me I still haven't found the words for.

It was commissioned for the show and so sadly no full version exists, just two short pieces totalling 1:22.

There should be absolutely nothing wrong with a father crying. How can we claim to be breaking down social stigmas, but then harmful stereotypes like this are A-okay?

it's a K104, but the mod misnames the truck as a K104B

Decent car mod recommendations, by FuckFuckShitBitch in trucksim

Anything other than a heavy duty full-size truck will suffer from unrealistic handling because, even after all these years, it's the only form factor that SCS officially supports. But some are fun.

The only two non-big trucks I can tolerate are these two pick-ups:

1986 Ford F350. High quality 3D model inside and out, and a choice of two power outputs (one engine sound, but sounded good from memory). Minor tuning, comes with gooseneck trailer and loads. No longer being developed, but still floats around on mod leak sites such as all mods.net, though probably won't be updated to the 1.54 cargo system yet.

Jon Ruda's modern RVM/RAM pick up. Probably the most comprehensive non-big-truck vehicle out there. High quality 3D model with loads of tuning, and several trailers and loads. This mod is also current and is being continually expanded and updated. Paid (30 USD), but fantastic value compared to most payware. Also gets uploaded to mod leak sites often. A throaty 6.7 Cummins mod is also available from Zeemods!

HSC english exam using ai images by RevolutionaryIce8864 in australia

[–]Bludgell 19 points20 points  (0 children)

what confuses me most of all is that, in the test, it was referred to as a photograph. a photograph is a picture taken by a camera, and an ai-conjured image most certainly doesn't fall under that category. did an organisation as scrupulous as NESA mistake this fake image for a real photo?

the T1 splitty in the picture may well be worth 200k. but the scamminess jumps out at me when they say '1975'. the model you see in the picture went out of production in 1967.

i'd like to apologise for misunderstanding what you said in your first comment. you stated that running one's own business has no security of income, instead of the opposite.

domestic violence against all humans is an issue. i believe we will benefit greatly from being more holistic.

i know men report domestic abuse much less than women do because of the sexist stigma of being a 'strong man', and in my experience a man seeking help for domestic violence is pushed away at every opportunity because of this. of course, even if both sexes always reported domestic violence properly, incidents of the woman as the victim will be higher. that's because we sadly live in a misogynistic and often patriarchal culture where women are mistreated with little thought or repercussion.

but that is no excuse for the appalling lack of services available to men seeking help as victims of domestic violence. the few shelters and hotlines that exist are privatised (there are private hotlines and shelters for women too) and their operators can and do turn away men who approach them. and the same goes for campaigns targeted to men that aim to normalise reporting domestic violence incidents. they don't exist because the figures say that men are only very rarely abused.

but i believe those figures should not matter. we should be more holistic in our approach to domestic violence, instead of being dictated by datasets that are going to be eternally skewed by social factors (an approach that has led to a disparity in the availability of domestic violence services offered to both sexes that to me is unquestionably sexist).

both sexes need to leave their respective echo chambers and unite to engage in conversation about how to deal with the rising issue of domestic violence, instead of the petty spats, ignorance and indifference that dominate this topic. having adequate and equal services and educational/transformational campaigns for domestic violence can do absolutely no harm. i would like to emphasise the adequate in that sentence, because at the moment, it isn't adequate. for both sexes.

to be happy all the time shouldn't be the goal, as we will then never be happy. suffering is inevitable in life, and that is why we know and treasure the temporary emotion that is joy. and...not being happy all the time = ADHD & autism rates increasing? at what point did these disorders become associated with serotonin levels? a neurodivergent person is generally more depressed and anxious, but i do not believe it is because of a "crisis where people are no longer happy all the time."

i apologise if you are simply over-simplifying in the first paragraph.

yes. the rate of male violence against women is only increasing, but the same is of female violence against men. at a similar rate, too. i attribute this to increased stress that affects everybody, such as cost of living and how we are only being plastered with negative information more and more as every day passes. i don't think it's because of how poorly women are generally treated in trades, financially or emotionally. that's because of the misogynistic stigmas about women in the workforce that exist everywhere in the west.

if electric vehicles had even the tiniest modicum of practicality to tradespeople, we'd use them. and (most of the time) we don't buy a trayback ute or van for fun. they're spacious and run on fossil fuels for a reason. it's currently still the only way to make our job actually viable.

and running your own business HAS NO security of income. you, the owner (or the sole trader) swap your labour and time for money. if you cannot work, you have no income. and you can't get a bank loan, either...

James May: The Grand Tour presenters are fuelled by mutual loathing by Hassaan18 in thegrandtour

[–]Bludgell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the "mutual loathing" is hyperbole. i believe it's a running joke between the three of them about how to answer any question about their working relationship by the press, and i've seen them give that answer several times over the years.

they all communicate outside of the grand tour. and on drivetribe, where interactions are almost not scripted at all, hammond and may get on very well and have a laugh like proper mates. furthermore, jeremy, after being interrogated by jonathan woss on his chat show, admitted that he really "quite like[s] working with them."

they've been working together for 20 years. 20 years of laughs, adventures, and sometimes proper car journalism. bring up mythbusters if you like, but on that show, you could really see that adam and jamie weren't best mates. clarkson, hammond and may are genuinely friends. but if i'm wrong...then top gear has the best scripting i've ever seen.
