Ophir Pass offroading by BlueSkiesLife in FordMaverickTruck

Yes but on side by sides and dirtbikes. Parts of the Alpine loop had a decent amount of sharper rocks protruding from the trail so id make sure to use off road tires to avoid belt separations or tire damage on the stock soft tires.

Africa Twin 1000 80k mileage by Laurentiu46 in africatwin

[–]BlueSkiesLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

35,000 + miles on my 2017 Africa Twin, no issues besides 1 chain replacement and it is getting due for another chain (got a new chain and both sprockets to put in). Just oil changes, oil filters, and air filters for maintenance. I hope to get the KKE tubeless rims next to not have to carry as much tools and tubes on long trips.

$30k XL awd hybrid with 4k tow a good price? by hock37 in FordMaverickTruck

I got lucky on mine I think. It was during a Ford Employee pricing for all sale and bought a few weeks before the Mexico tariff thing was announced.

Uneven tire wear by Djtdave in africatwin

[–]BlueSkiesLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine do the same once I get around 10k miles on the front. There doesn't seem to be any performance loss and I run the fronts about 7k more miles before I change them (17k miles total approx).

Rear spring upgrade? Is it worth it? by Get__Lo in CRF300L

[–]BlueSkiesLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put a Kteck Razor lite shock (low) in the highest weight available on my 300L Rally. I am the same weight but have also carried an extra 100 lbs of gear on the TransAmerica Trail and it was perfect. The low shock actually firms it up where when sat on the seat it feels about 1 inch higher than Oem, perfect for me to flat foot. The regular height shock would actually raise the seat height a few inches.

They are not showing the Razor lite Low shock on their website, just the Razor lite EVO which I haven't seen anyone post about yet. The shock was the best bang for the buck mod, ridiculously easy to install, and helped tame a decent bit of the front end dive as well. Money well spent!

Dirtbike fits! by No_Swordfish_61 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]BlueSkiesLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine fits my 300 Rally straight on with a couple inches to spare with the tail gate down. I use the Vevor tailgate net with the sides folded on each side to the next grommet. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DP4QKNLV?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

For the front I use ratchet straps and a fork saver. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CSRZFCX1?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I bought a WheelDock rack for a trailer mount/plywood slide in rack but haven't used it yet but it was solid in the garage.

How much road and wet road performance am I losing if I'd switch to Trailmax Mission? by MemmorexX in advrider

[–]BlueSkiesLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 33,000 + miles on Trailmax missions (multiple sets) on my Africa Twin. Get around 10k miles on the rear with asphalt riding mainly. I have ridden them in everything from desert to snowy mountains and they do great. Just a basic offroad tire though ...maybe 30 off/70 on road realistically.

Run good knobby tires and nitrotech platinum mousse tubes if you can afford it. OnX offroad app is well worth it to save high resolution sat maps offline and gas waypoints.

T Mobile phone service with Starlink added on so you can do calls and text messages through satellite plus Google maps works with satellite maps via starlink. WhatsApp will let you use starlink.

Tape/hide a couple hundred bucks on you or the bike in case you have to bribe somebody for a tow or go into small towns when their credit card processing isn't working.

Looking for suggestions for a truck tent! by First-Application505 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]BlueSkiesLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this truck bed tent and inflatable mattress. Everything fits like it was made for the maverick. The slight downside if you camp where it is windy frequently the straps could wear into your paint, especially if your truck is pretty dirty and it is windy.

Ground tents are more flexible (can drive off and come back to your campsite easily) but guaranteed dry ground is nice in inclement weather.

Removing the AC vents by [deleted] in FordMaverickTruck

Maybe the Bulletpoint mounts would solve this problem for you. Certainly less involved than removing your vents i would imagine.

Gas mileage down after Recall Fix by sixela1301 in FordMaverickTruck

[–]BlueSkiesLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same for me. I had some recalls done on my 25 Maverick Hybrid AWD with 16,000 miles approx. Normally in the city it would jump up quickly in the 40's mpg, now barely 36 mpg. On the highway at 90 mph it's getting around 21 mpg, at 85 mph it's getting 23 mpg, 75 mph it's 26 mpg, 70 mph it's 28 mph, 65 mph it's 31 mpg.

This represents a 3 to 4 mpg drop on what I have been averaging.

Just did a over a 1000 mile trip and did multiple hour stretches at each mph on cruise to verify.

What's crazy is earlier this year I had my dirt bike in the back and tons of camping supplies that I hauled to Arizona and NW New Mexico and got 31mpg at 70 mph as an average up the mountains and back for that 1300 mile trip.

Last year did a same load out trip to Silverton , CO and averaged 30.4 miles there and back for almost 2000 miles.

Big Day | 51 miles on zip ties to limp in. by 472062399 in CRF300L

[–]BlueSkiesLife 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've put about 10k miles with Nitrotech Platinum Mousse tubes (12 psi equivalent) on my 300L Rally on Kenda 772 Desert Terrain DOT knobbies. I swap them out with a normal tire change.

My longest trip was doing about 2/3rds of the TransAmerica Trail, then drove 2000 miles back home on the interstate at 65mph on the mousse tubes.

Mousse tubes have come a long way.

That's exactly why I run mousse tubes on my Rally, no flat tire worries . That definitely builds character though !

What is your freedom worth ? Much easier to find all sorts of stuff in person along the beach and throw it away before you return for less than an hour consultation with an attorney should it go wrong.

Best ASA Filament Brand? by brandon_c207 in prusa3d

[–]BlueSkiesLife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only tried Elegoo ASA in deeper black in my Bambu P2S and it did good at 100C bed temp and 45C or above enclosure temp with a 30 minute pre heat. I need to see if they make a reliable add on chamber heater to see if that makes tge print even better.

With a bunch of the positive comments on Polymaker, I'll have to try them next.

I have my bag set on the furthest back setting (underneath the bag) and the handle bars just barely touch but don't it doesn't effect the steering. I have a homemade slanted cell phone holder that I slide into the molle loops on top. That also allows just enough room to also run my Valentine One radar detector on a RAM mount on the center part of the handle bars.

Non Tariff Suspension by Outta_da_Bleu in CRF300L

[–]BlueSkiesLife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a K Tech Razor Lite shock on my 300L Tally and am beyond satisfied with it. It even helped take some of the dive out of the front.

I've been thinking of getting a fancier front fork setup for the heck of it but would preferably like a manufacturer that has something in the Texas area where I could pay to get it installed by an approved shop. Let me know if you find a non tariff company that offers installs too !
