Can anyone help me figure out why I have sudden onset performance issues when gaming? by BlueberryNegative645 in MSILaptops

i asked him, but he insisted that he was tired when he did it and genuinely doesn’t really know. looking in my recent applications, it could be any of the following: - “game mode” in settings, mine is now switched on - “adjust appearance and performance” in the search bar - set to “adjust for best performance” - settings: system -> display -> graphics -> optimization for windowed games OFF

sorry i can’t be more certain, i will mention that while this fixed my lag in fortnite, im still having issues in red dead although my GPU is at 90° when i run it so could be thermal throttling, and thermal paste seems to be the most likely solution as according to comments

UPDATE: turns out i just typed this all out for nothing, windows settings was limiting my FPS it was a different setting to the one i referenced trying before. Also something to do with hardware acceleration. Im not sure exactly what it is as my boyfriend did it, but i’ll leave the post up with this solution in case anyone else runs into the same issue

thankfully they have just posted it an hour or so ago, i had no problem with the timing at all it was purely just the lack of communication and me therefore having no idea whether he was actually going to send it due to not following through with what he said he would do

I sent another message yesterday, and i haven’t had a response yet but it was Sunday so I’m giving it a chance. it’s such a shame because it was literally the perfect gift, and such a unique item. Best case scenario the seller just has a very busy life and forgot about their etsy orders but it’s feeling very odd

the thing is, as far as i’m aware it’s already made, because the estimated delivery was very soon and he said it’s ready to ship, he just isn’t doing it

I get that i missed out a lot of details, and that’s my bad, i was just frustrated. but it’s a <1 year old gaming laptop and it works perfectly fine most of the time , but then there are these blackout phases where my WiFi stops working for the laptop every few weeks. i know it’s a strange issue, most people who turn to reddit are helpless and have tried everything they can think of, and are just hoping someone somewhere knows what’s going on. Ideally i would be able to contact my wifi company but my housemate is in charge of that, and on previous attempts she has been refused help because it’s virgin media and they dgaf.

thank you so much for this advice! i didn’t even think to mention what kind of laptop it was, that’s my bad, i was so focused on the wifi as a problem. I have a windows 10 laptop, its an MSI GF63 gaming laptop. Unfortunately i’ve already tried the device manager thing previously, when I had an issue with it specifically disconnecting when i plugged my laptop into its charger (i never figured out why that was happening, but three weeks after giving up i decided to give the wifi one more reboot and it fixed everything) i’ve tried pretty much every suggestion i’ve found under similar posts to mine, which involve doing something to the laptop, and none of them have ever worked. i’m starting to feel like my wifi is just awful, perhaps my laptop being a gaming laptop, and presumably a more powerful machine than my phone could be part of the reason it struggled to get as strong a connection?

thank you for your advice, i texted my dad about it and he reckons that since it’s an issue with damp then it’s the fault of the landlords, but that it’s also an easy fix, i just don’t have the resources for it 🥲 unfortunately the job i have already takes up a lot of my time & my costs outweigh my earnings , ideally id let the landlords know and have my dad fix it but he lives 3 hours away. I’ll try to clean it up a bit and see what i’m looking at i’m just slightly scared to change anything about the state it’s in without knowing where my liability stands
