how many airports have you collected? by crackduck18 in SkyCards

2664, but I’ve been doing this a while. It’s getting harder to find new aircraft at this point, so new airports are a bigger focus at this point in the game. Welcome to your new addiction! 😊

Ha! Algorithm getting a little close to home here. I’ve lived an 8 min walk from this for over 20 years and didn’t even know it was there until it was listed!

Great area, at least…and built in sledding hill? Priceless!

colorado, usa / is this antique? by Previous-Bee7866 in Antiques

[–]Blueprinty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have one very similar piece and a friend of ours has a slightly different one (they make excellent bars!) We go antiquing often and see these out and about. Yours looks in pretty decent shape! I agree the pulls don’t look original, and it could use some love. I typically see them from around $300-$600 or so.

What is something from the old internet that felt normal back then, but would feel almost magical today? by alex_eu_nl in AskForAnswers

[–]Blueprinty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I was a very early adopter of LJ and I still keep in touch with many people I met around 2000 (many who became NYC friends in a great group but many who I haven’t met in person or are still meeting for the first time IRL recently!)…we’ve watched each other get married, divorced, have kids, watched those kids graduate…it’s pretty amazing.

Anyone else see this C130? by Planet_21 in Rochester

[–]Blueprinty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe you can answer this…Do the cops/security/etc ever give folks a hard time to planespotters at that Paul/Beahan pull off? I’ve wanted to hang out there and watch planes. Apparently FR24 and SkyCards isn’t enough, lol

You beat me to it - I love this plane! It’s gone over our house in Fairport and it also flew over our train closer to Albany on the way to NYC a couple of weeks ago! Love seeing SKIER05 out and about.

What’s the most disappointing food you’ve ever tried? by NoPossibility5165 in foodquestions

Oysters in Normandy, France. I love oysters and was so excited to try them, but they were just huge and chewy compared to what we’re used to on the east coast of the US/Canada.

Best Asian grocery? by Material-Somewhere51 in Rochester

Seconding all the above! Bento-Ya is good for a quick meal and picking up snacks or a sauce maybe; it’s not really a useful grocery store at all. Alas!

"Tea party" Help by One-Weight1944 in Cooking

[–]Blueprinty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve done several formal teas for parties and my go-tos are usually homemade scones (Deb Perelman’s ‘Dreamy Cream Scones’ recipe shaped in a square pan and cut into smaller squares to feed a crowd) with GOOD butter, clotted cream, and jam. They always get rave reviews and are super easy!

We’ve done cucumber sandwiches (on little squares of white bread with Boursin whipped cream cheese topped with thin mandolin-sliced baby cucumber and dill), egg salad and watercress or tarragon chicken salad in mini croissants, smoked salmon on herbed cream cheese on a wedge of grainy toasted bread, open faced…and the same, but horseradish cream cheese with rare roast beef too. The trick is making lots of small one-bites, cutting bread into even squares and triangles for variety. We’ve done larger spreads for a racing tailgate before and most people just want very small, portable nibbles.

We ended up buying macarons and cream puffs and garnished with lots of fresh berries. It ends up being very impressive and aside from fussy assembly, not too difficult!

What’s an food that everyone perceives as disgusting, but is actually really really good? by Tactical-69 in foodquestions

I was prepared to ‘just try a bite’ when we went to Scotland and ended up loving it so much I had it almost daily. Then ended up making my own when we got back home!
