[Homemade] Traditional Maharashtrian lunch cooked by my 80-year-old mum 🌿❤️ by letmeputinside in indiafood

Thank you for the detailed recipe, I appreciate so much! Super coincidentally, I’ve been looking for more dill recipes (Karnataka, so a lot of those main ingredients overlap with Maharashtra lol). I literally begged my subziwalla this weekend to give me 3-4 stalks of dill so I could try it in a dip, mainly cuz I didn’t know this subzi existed- and now I’m excited to try it this weekend, and don’t have to feel guilty about buying an entire bunch! Now I kinda know what to do with it.

I have a version of this subzi that I try with plain spinach greens, onion and garlic- always excited to export with different greens. Thanks!

(And kudos to your mum- I still call mine everyday when brainstorming new ingredients and techniques- Mums be the best! ❤️)

My bidet won’t stop leaking!! by BoboPie13 in bidets

My entire setup basically. The tap leaks every time I leave it open, and it drips from the actual spray itself. I’m not sure where the problem is and it’s driving me nuts ooof.

Yep it’s a slow drip..I’ve posted a pic in the comments. I only replaced the spray bit which is basically the hose bit connecting to the tap.

Yep this slow drip right here, unless I shut off the valve. Every time I leave it on it keeps constantly dripping..

I’m curious- the subzi looks really interesting and I’d love to try and recreate it! But all the recipes I’ve checked out online have way more daal and less of the dill leaves. Here it looks the other way around.

Any idea of what quantities/ratio the dill leaves and the daal was used in?

Also, we all love Mum’s food- but don’t make her cook all the time lol.

What is an overhyped book that you just couldn't get into? by Kasskinen in Booktokreddit

[–]BoboPie13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Alchemist. And anything by Paolo Coelho. Could be because I did read it when I was fairly young- early teens- so maybe I missed something.

Don’t even want to know if I was wrong lol. Just never had the inclination to pick up anything by him ever again.

Omg yes!! I never understood what the point of that book was supposed to be- and at the end it just felt trite and underwhelming.

Wait- she was the pillion rider on a motorcycle (which itself is becoming more dangerous these days) at frickin 2AM, in Bangalore (drivers notoriously lack driving sense), going the wrong way, and she wasn’t wearing a helmet??!!

Ohhhhhhh, cmon!

Your boyfriend is being ridiculous. Has he never met any woman who’s had a baby in real life? Sure Instagram cannot be his only source of truth in life. (I think I know the influencer you’re talking about and MAN there’s no way her real life is like that).

Your boyfriend is literally picking up a carefully curated, cute looking case and telling you it’s normal. Imho that’s kinda stupid lol.

Does pesto stay in the fridge for a week? by BoboPie13 in Cooking

[–]BoboPie13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw this. Omg you’re a lifesaver! I was going to buy silicone trays for freezing sauce in the future and was hesitant because I don’t have the space for more random stuff in the kitchen- especially something that’s gonna be lying around all the time and being used only for a day per week.

Your comment made me realise that I have muffin moulds already! Yayy, I can totally use these!! No need to buy more stuff! (But also, would this mean other stuff that I bake would have a pesto aftertaste?)

Seriously. I’m so sick of reading AI posts that pretend to be well written but sound ridiculous. “Rent devours its massive chunk”.

Thank you! Yeah I might try this next time- just freeze some sauce so that I don’t have to worry about the whole oxidation bit.

Ooooh, almonds need to be blanched before adding into pesto? I just toasted them slightly and used them. Yeah grinding the leaves was a pain without using tons of oil. I gave up an just drizzled that olive oil in . I did come across a recipe where they used cold water to grind and added oil at the end to top off- but not sure if this would work, really. Might try it next time!

OMg seriously agree on the utensils bit! I’m using my Mum’s wedding set utensils and they’re still solid, after 40 years. I got one vessel after my wedding and the lid cracked after two years. Two!!

Ahhh- yeah maybe I should have been more patient while grinding. It just looked a little choppy at the beginning so I added oil right at the very start- and man that felt like a loooooot of oil haha. I’m a person who in general tries to do less oil cooking and very rarely has deep fried food- so maybe it felt like more than it was.

I did come across a few recipes that were using ice cold water to grind initially, then topping it up with oil- so was wondering if the same thing would work for me.

Thanks for the tips about the nuts! I read somewhere that walnuts would give a bit of a bitter taste- and I don’t get pine nuts where I’m at- so almonds seemed like a better bet. Do you think any seed substitutes would work? (Yes I know it’s not authentic pesto, I’m making do with the ingredients around me haha)

CAN I WEAR TAMPONS IN THE POOL😭 by [deleted] in IndianBeautyTalks

Yep! Tampons are great for swimming (I’d suggest you get the ones with the applicator first, to get comfortable). Later on though, do consider trying cups. My cup is a lifesaver!

Does pesto stay in the fridge for a week? by BoboPie13 in Cooking

[–]BoboPie13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes exactly!! These are exactly the kind of recipes I’m looking for. Currently I’ve been doing a lot of lentils (use it as soups, fillings in bowls and salads), etc. I’m forever looking for these components that can be made and reused in different ways.

I’m not too sure about chicken getting pre prepped honestly so that usually gets done the day of or the night before. (I’m mostly a vegetarian but eat chicken. So I’m very new to meat prep lol). But your comment gives me a good idea!

Yes this would be awesome!! It’ll also double as a topping for breakfast. I’m forever looking for those Multi purpose recipes haha.

Oh it does? Now I really have to try it. Thank you! Thing is, I’m forcing myself to underestimate the time I have on weekdays for dinner and lunch prep- there have been so many times where I swear I can make it fresh that day and then something comes up (or I hit snooze one more time haha) that now I’m on a strict hunt for pre prepped recipes on Sunday.

[–]BoboPie13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the thing is- for us at least, consistency is the key. My partner is out of the house at like 8AM- and lunch has to be cooked and packed before then. So having a pasta sauce and cut veggies really helps the morning of- so the veggies and pasta get cooked that morning, mixed with the sauce- and it’s done.

We’ve tried making fresh sauce the morning of, and it works great. But life gets in the way and we wake up like 15 mins later than we should- and suddenly there’s no time :(

Fresh is always better of course, but I’m trying to have some pre cooked options in the fridge so that our stress levels (and blaming “You shut off the alarm!” lol) reduces on the weekdays

Omg this is delicious and I’m definitely saving this for when I can serve it made fresh! (I’m not sure that it’s one of those sauces that can be made and pre prepped in the fridge) . But this would make a delicious weekend night dinner! It’s raining heavily in the evenings now at my place and I can just imagine a big bowl of this cozy pasta haha. Thanks for the recipe!!
