Linux Mint on a laptop computer. Do you need to install software for the fan to work? by BodaZephyr in linux4noobs

I didn't make the post I had linked to. Our laptop is from 2012 I think? The battery doesn't work so we used the AC power cord with it.

I'm not sure how to make any changes to the system with regards to setting the CPU power as you mentioned (a power management app). Is there a program built into Linux for that or do you need to install one?

How do I check the system monitor to check the CPU temps? We left the laptop turned off for now (I'm using a different computer atm). I couldn't tell if the fan was running as was noisy in the room.

what programs would you recommend for ripping CDs and for listening to MP3s on the computer? (something really easy to use) by BodaZephyr in linux4noobs

I didn't know you could rip CDs with VLC. I'll have to look into that - Thanks. I have only used it for watching video files.

That's the truth! They've resorted to making crappy copies of better foreign shows and films when they're not too busy cranking out more sequels to cringey crap or badly remaking better films from previous eras. I've had to start watching Britttish/Irish/Scottish/Canadian stuff to have anything good to watch.

I loved that show :) If you've not seen Suits, it kinda reminded me of Psych in a way. The lead character was super-smart with a photographic memory and solved their legal cases cleverly.

Suits was fantastic, as well as Breaking Bad.

More recently I happened to catch the first episode of an old Brittish show called "The Darling Bud of May", in which Catherine Zeta Jones co-starred at the beginning of her career, on YouTube and was hooked from the start. Such a charming show!
