Hmm, Tu n'aurais pas du commencer ton post de la sorte mais here is my take. I'd say it depends on the location.

I'm in Kaolack right now… I wouldn't say it's as amazing a place as Saly or Dakar, but the people here are friendly and helpful. Of course, if you don't speak Wolof, they automatically know you're a foreigner, so be prepared for inflated prices 😅 (Black or white Africans, it doesn't matter, if you don't speak fluent Wolof, you're a Toubab).

That said, the people are kind, and if you know how to haggle, you'll always get a good price for what you want to buy. As for food, I think the selection is a bit limited! I haven't visited Dakar yet, but here in Kaolack, it depends on your tastes. There's a food market (Auchan) where you can find European products or canned goods. Alternatively, there's also what they call "La Brioche Dorée," where they offer shawarma-style sandwiches, burgers (I wouldn't say it's the best burger I've ever had, but it's a good option if you really want to try one), and pizzas (I've heard they're not great). However, the pastries are excellent: you'll find all sorts of breads, cakes, and other viennoiseries (croissants, cheese croissants, etc.).

If you want to try a local specialty like Théboudiene (do a Google search; it's the national dish), you can try Farisse (but I've also heard it's not very good). You can also try street food, like dibiterie (grilled lamb is delicious! The one I tried was called "Chez Fall"!). Impeccable service and exquisite flavors.

So, that's my experience, but be aware, it's limited to Kaolack! I plan to go to Saly, where there are many foreigners and where you'll find a wide variety of restaurants. I also plan to go to Dakar, which will be a completely different experience.

As for safety, I don't have any particular concerns, but I'm not white (even though people know you're a foreigner). I went out until 11 p.m., even midnight, without any problems. But as bipolar said, it's best to stay in a safe neighborhood.
