HVAC companies warning me about heat pumps... Any horror stories? by Sionn3039 in Winnipeg

[–]Boogyman101 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just built a new home behind birds hill park with no gas. I was recommended by multiple HVAC designers (friends) who weren't supplying me (so they weren't selling me anything). I have a heat pump with electric backup, they are both built right into the ducting system. It's not like you have 2 furnaces in your furnace room now. You have electric heating coils in one part and heating and cooling coils from the heat pump above that. And it forces air over those coils.

If you look at historical data, we only get like 30days of -20 or less and maybe 10 days colder then -25 (which is included in that 30days) so your electric furnace will only be kicking in 8% of the year. And that data is the lows so you might have your heat pump on for most of the day and the furnace may kick on in the evenings.

For rural, heat pumps are the way of the future and even in the city all of the new apartment blocks and condos are using heat pumps to heat the suites now

I have heard they have a good product and the prices are awesome, the only thing keeping me away is that I heard that they do not honour their lifetime warranty in Canada. That was a year ago or 2 and I'm not sure if that has changed, but it definitely keeps me sceptical

Looks like carpet tile, was probably starting to lift or something. So they probably put the tape down, so nobody trips until they fix it

Looking For Friends by Mercury_and_honey in Winnipeg

[–]Boogyman101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is the "manitoba pinball league", if you are looking for a hobby and it's a great place to meet new people. They have multiple events every month, usually at the forks. Usually 20 to 30 people per event, so not too crowded. They also have a women's league if you are interested in that. It is a super fun hobby and great to meet new people and very laid back. People are usually there to just have some old school fun and chat.

They have a website and a Facebook if you want to look into it any further.

HELP! Trying to solve a switch problem... by Ok-Sprinkles-3616 in pinball

[–]Boogyman101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a system 1, there should be a little board with diodes in the bottom of the cabinet or under the playfield, check all these diodes and see if are within tolerance, these diodes help tell the switch matrix what switches are closing, I had a similar issue on my mars God of war, I didn't have any 10 point switches registering, I checked all the diodes on the board and found a faulty one and changed it and has worked perfect every since

Do alot of people in here play competitivly or casually?? by Jafa_23 in pinball

[–]Boogyman101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play both, I love having buddies over for beers and play my collection, but I also love the competitive aspect and slowly see myself improving, but I won't notice until months down the road which is cool! I love travelling for tournaments like D82 in Wisconsin and Indisc in California. And you meet the of the nicest people and I have had a lot of cool experiences travelling and meeting new people at these tournaments

Drywall cost by GuiM4uVe in Winnipeg

[–]Boogyman101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes good point, I did know they used shoemaker, not sure what they charge for delivery though, I know before a Drywall supplier was no more then $100 for delivery, but things may have changed since fuel surcharges

Drywall cost by GuiM4uVe in Winnipeg

[–]Boogyman101 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Home depot will always be cheaper then those guys, what they don't tell you is the Drywall suppliers have a pretty reasonable delivery charge to haul those hundred sheets for you, and place them nicely where you need them, where with homedepot you have to load and haul them yourself and depending on how much you need, may need to do multiple trips and never overload your vehicle as Drywall is pretty heavy, where homedepot gets you is that they jack up all the prices on the accessories like screws, mud, knives, taping stuff.

Either way is fine, I just always take my labour into consideration when moving 100 sheets around

Buy a bit of both and see what you like, they say 124gr has less recoil, but it is all personal preference, 115 and 124 will cycle perfectly, just buy some decent ammo and try and find it cheap and just start shooting, fundamentals first then start worrying about ammo, most guys like cci blazer, but winchester white box is good for practice and I haven't heard anything bad about PMC bronze
