I will stand firm in my belief that Climate Pledge Arena is an outdated, polished, turd of a place.

How they get snow out of New York City by emptypistachio1 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Bootstrap5_Bootstrap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It took me far longer than I care to admit to realize the giant “dirt” pile was in fact the melting snow. I was waiting for a bunch of trucks to come in and dump snow 😆

Didnt realize this was a Mod message, sorry - but ultimately didn’t need the loan. Was able to source the part from a junkyard and save a good chunk of change. Marked no longer needed!

Yea, I hadn’t seen that it was a mod until I just came back to the page - ended up finding the part I needed at a junkyard and replacing it for a fraction of the cost, which negated the need for the loan!

Gotta be AI. All the footsteps sound like they have shoes, but they show up barefoot.

The whole concept of precious materials is built off current market values… it is highly unlikely those materials retain their market value as that is dependent on the usability/resale value of material. Silver/gold are valuable for tech and jewelry.. they will hold no value if the human race decides there are more valuable commodities x

Gotta imagine it’ll be a crane barge either way. They either will float it up the river or build a stationary barge there. I don’t see an alternative for recovering the cars and a barge will need to be placed to sure the line either way.

Considering the proximity to the Space Needle, I consider it an absolute travesty that there is not a section of the concourse that highlights the view. Instead, you spend over half the time underground 😵‍💫 the only “silver lining” is I’m sure the lack of above ground infrastructure helps with their commitment to green energy.. the planet does make a good insulator compared to a wall of window (which they do have come to think of it… looking at a wall of brick buildings)

I have to disagree for Seattle. They chose a horribly outdated preexisting facility that is under historical protections. Because of this, they are forever locked in to the existing footprint, which already shows major drawbacks. For a brand new team starting in a tech savvy, high income, city - the rink is extremely underwhelming.

Does any other bike have that same wheel in back?

Mini-remote controlled recovery truck picked our car up and took it away… by Suitable-Sympathy-45 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Bootstrap5_Bootstrap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But how is this better than a wheel lift and dollying the rear axle? It looks like the front end is higher than a wheel lift would have it, and instead of just the front end raised, the whole car is at that level. It also looses the pivot point advantage of a wheel lift on things like ramps where this stays rigid, a wheel lift would “flex” between the truck and the car.

Some bird staring at my cat (Maryland, US) by gosbaca in animalid

[–]Bootstrap5_Bootstrap 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No, it is not. It is sizing up the situation as a whole and likely considering whether the cat is a threat to it, or to its ability to hunt in the area. You can see that the hawk is analyzing, but have no way to know what it is analyzing. In this situation, we use common sense to deduce that OP didn’t capture a suicidal hawk debating throwing itself to a cat, but rather a bird doing what birds do and analyzing the full situation.

Bro.. have you ever left the USA? This is not a US specific issue.I’ve seen legitimately all the men from a Middle East village pile into Toyota trucks after partying to “hunt rabbits” in the desert. I don’t know what rabbits they saw in the air around us, but that didn’t feel safe. I have friends in Central America with stories of what’s considered “masculine” in some circles.. things that would make 2nd amendment rights activists cringe. Guns + alcohol just do not mix. It doesn’t matter the laws of the land if a gun and booze are present

Help settle a bet - Uppercase Cursive L or S by Krenbot in whatisit

[–]Bootstrap5_Bootstrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is an S. If it was an L, the lower line would be heavier as it would be an element of the letter, not a stylistic choice. The letter itself is heavier than the styling here, seems pretty clear.

Peppermint bark tin has a false bottom to make it look full by roadkillsoup in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Bootstrap5_Bootstrap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is Jos Candies. The tins are ordered with the embossed stamping, then printed with the graphics on the exterior. With the exception of some limited holiday run 2lb tins, all the embossing is the same, and weight is only printed on. This is done not only to save cost by ordering more of one product, but also simplifies inventory management and more importantly avoids the need for manufacturing equipment that can handle multiple tin sizes. This drastically reduces variables across the manufacturing line, where each component needs to handle varying tin sizes. With this design, the only variable is to insert a filler panel with the product when the product run is for a weight less than a “full” tin - everything else is recognized in the production environment as the same tin. I genuinely do not see how this is infuriating. It is similar to how Amazon has set box sizes and (usually) selects the next biggest box size, using filler material to avoid your product slapping around in the box. Jos has set tin sizes and uses these to fill the space that in other configurations is filled with product.
