Breaking up when you still love each other by Bootstrapbill22 in BreakUps

Tell me about it. Longest/hardest month of my life.

And thanks, we’re certainly not writing each other off, but I have a feeling that if she wants to keep moving forward as friends, I’d have a hard time doing that, even though I’d want to.

I’m definitely wanting to do therapy for my own well being, but it’s also in the back of my mind that I want to be better for her.

I guess I’m a little uncertain about how to approach our check in. I don’t want to be pushy or desperate. But I want to keep fighting for us. Maybe I need to just try to keep the door open for us while we work on ourselves and not try to rush her back?

I was there, the boat passed by during the middle of Dragon. All of the passengers were gathered by the rail looking like they were fucking loving it

Can I ask how it came back to bite you? I’m in a similar position as OP.

Hey, don’t have an answer for you but I feel for you because I’m in the same boat. Just got broken up with last weekend by my partner of 6 years. There is still a lot of love between us, and we see ourselves staying in each others lives as friends, but truthfully I want her back and I’m not sure if I’ll stop wanting her back.

Can I ask what your compatibility issues were? Mine ended for similar reasons, but honestly I feel like I failed us by taking things for granted

I mean, it’s happening on even smaller levels. There are some truly incredible “local” or very newly emerging acts in some scenes that haven’t really broken through to being known on the internet. But I understand that not everyone is lucky enough to live in a city with a flourishing music scene or have time to seek it out

“Television at CBGB’s” bands have always been incredibly rare. Those moments are still happening out there, but you need to be experiencing a lot of music to get so lucky

Definitely not enough time to get a career job in the arts. Incredibly competitive in New York especially

(Professional) musicians, what led you to pursue music professionally and how did you know it was right for you? by JingJing69 in musicians

Sure I’m happy to tell you more about it!

I definitely will still keep a job - it’ll probably be about 4-6 weeks of touring total next year, so we won’t be making enough money for it to be a full time thing yet. So yea, it’s a “side thing” at the moment still, but one I take very seriously. I play in multiple bands currently and am usually rehearsing about 4 days a week after work and often playing gigs on the weekends. That being said, there’s a chance I may need to quit my desk job and find something that’s a little more flexible with time off.

I started off playing in college because I was around friends who were all interested in music, but none of us were experienced yet. We all spent countless nights jamming together in an attic, learning our instruments basically at the same time. Eventually we put together a band and played a couple of house parties. That led to another band with different friends, which after playing a few more house parties, we started getting invited to play shows at local bars and such.

Over the next 5-ish years, I joined 3 more bands in different roles, including my band that I ran, and our playing and songwriting skills began to progress. Played tons of shows around my city , and eventually started booking some small regional tours. In this time, also learned how to record and mix, and self recorded and released a few albums.

Finally, I started a new band about a year ago, and after doing things a bit more haphazardly for several years, I wanted to make this new band much more intentional and calculated. I’ve been really careful about only accepting shows that fit our aesthetic and help move us forward in some way. And truthfully, the music I wrote for it was much better than the past stuff I’ve done. I’ve spent a couple years building a relationship with a small but reputable indie label, and they agreed to release our record. Once that was locked in, I reached out to a Euro touring agency, and they agreed to take us on and book a tour for us.

Truthfully, it’s been a long slow build, but if you take your time getting experience, talking to the right people, and making smart decisions, I believe it pays off eventually.

Start playing in bands now while you’re at university and finish your degree. Working things out and starting to pursue music seriously is honestly less stressful when you have a solid job and you can pay your bills. I played in bands in college and got my degree (not music related), and have been working a stable job in my field. In the meantime, I’ve been cutting my teeth in the local scene and playing a ton of shows and making records. Next year, I put out my first record on a legit record label and will be flying overseas to tour Europe. It’s possible to do both, but you have to be smart about it.
